Pre-Gibson Tobias basses

I'd love to see if people here have any pre-Gibson Tobias' (or more correctly pre-Nashville). I'll start with my two with some of Mike's words about them (from left to right):

#1033: "Classic 5 birdseye maple and purple heart neck morado and alder body built in 89"
#1776: "Signature 5 bubinga wenge neck zebra wenge body built in 91"

The 1033 has been with me for 6-7 years and has been my main bass. The owner before he who sold it to me was a touring musician who handled it pretty roughly so it has quite some marks on it, but it still plays beautifully. The preamp however is starting to give up on me so I'm trying to find a technician who could hopefully solve any problem.

The 1776 was bought recently and looks and plays great. It's in better condition but still has a lot of wear and tear which is natural (it is 20+ years old after all!). Needs to be taken to a technician also since the switch is pretty wonky.

I am however starting to have second thoughts about these, wanting to pick up 6-string for the first time in years (haven't played one in 10 years), but they'll most likely be with me for quite some time until I can get my hands on either a pre-Gib 6-string or maybe something else like an MTD. Still have no idea how the latter plays because I've never tried one, but it is Mike Tobias' work so I bet it plays just as fine as these two.

I would love to own a pre Gibson tobias... The only thing concerning me is the tight spacing on those...
I recently have bought an mtd 535 it's a truely sick bass (thunderous low b a gospel monster bass)
ive heard clips of these tobias basses, the sound is actually pretty similar to an mtd, the biggest difference in tone is prolly found in the Bart electronics and the fact that they are constructed differently... But as I said suprisingly they sound pretty close.

By the way Arnoldo has a really stunning 635 up for sale, if your after a 6er.

Yes I saw it and it truly looks amazing. It would be a great choice for a first MTD with all good "basic" woods that suit any style. However, I'm still on the fence regarding MTD's since I haven't tried one and going to the UK just for trying one out doesn't really seem practical. I am however considering visiting Musikmesse in Frankfurt next year and hopefully try something out there if MTD happen to be there.

Oh, I don't doubt the awesomeness that is MTD in terms of sound. However playability is big thing for me, for example there are a lot of "classic" basses out there that people love and I hate so I need to play one to be really sure if it's something I'd buy in the future.

If that means you don't like fender type string spacing.. Altho the 6er are 18mm instead of 19mm.
These do not feel like a tobias at all... 35' scale doesnt help either...
I'm sure someone in you country will definitly own one, maybe you can ask them for a test drive;)
I'm in the Netherlands so thats not very close at all... I definitly would like to try a pre gib tobias.. Just to know how they feel...

Regards,

Bram
