Jonesy64
I think you are both right about a Fuzz pedal being needed the search continues lol
A cranked Rat.....high gain/low volume setting, might be the answer to that then? ..or a muff. Musky
Danelectro French Toast is a fun, cheap effect. Fuzz and octave up, basically a rip off of the Foxx Tone Machine.
RandomProddy
The boss mega distortion isn't too bad and can often be found for around £35- £40 secondhand.
Seconded, it's totally mental on bass and definately worth a laugh. Ebay often has them selling them for around £20 in fact - very under-rated pedal IMO. The youtube clips on guitar dont sound overly great, but its worth a punt at that price!

Ancient Mariner
I have a couple of Eno micro pedals, bought direct from China. The ES-9 is a great tubescreamer clone (hugely better than the bad monkey) and the Rat clone works really well live, even though it sounds ratty in your livingroom. About $60 for the 2 = <£40 from donnerdeal.
