Apprenti L'Artisan
Hello! About a month ago was my birthday, and I went to London. Whilst in London, I tried out a Kala U-Bass and I LOVED it! So I decided to build one! I used a crappy art box that wasn't getting used for art. This rubbish box was awful as an art box, but very resonant and certainly good enough for a uke-bass! So, here it is! 47mm nut. 19" scale. 18mm string spacing. Sign-writing is by my amazing dad! Uhm, that is all. Enjoy! squire5
Not everyone can carry a spare lead, spare strap, can of beer etc INSIDE their bass.Like it.Really!
Rumple
Excellent, I like that you can still use it as a box How does it sound?
Apprenti L'Artisan
It's quiet, which I kind of expected. Only a little bit quieter than a Kala UBass though, if at all. Will wire up the pickup tomorrow and report back on electric tone. Acoustically though, very cool! The E-string requires a COMPLETE change in technique, and it's quite a bit quieter than the others, but other than that it's great! Very thumpy and warm, like a double bass with guts. No buzz at all and very dynamic. Playing near the bridge is more defined and funkier, near the 12th fret is thumpy and dark, and everything else in between! The neck is super comfy as well, that's the part I'm most proud of

Apprenti L'Artisan
Definitely, though I'm not sure the pickup will sound great (I'll replace it with a better one if it's not). If it's awful, I'll TRY and record it unplugged
wmsheep
very nice - been looking at Cigar Box type instruments myself recently. Looking forward to hearing a soundclip or
Apprenti L'Artisan
As promised, sound clip! The rattling is stuff being shook off the desk by some DEEP notes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmnQGnwdBTY&feature=youtu.be
