hamfist Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 (edited) SOLD For sale is my 1985 Made in Japan (Matsumoku) Westone Spectrum, sporting an aged Satin black re-finish. Retro-fitted with a brand new EMG 40DC active pickup and controls. As the final touch it has a custom Guy Lewis ebony thumbrest. As standard, it also includes a maple body and neck, rosewood fretboard, a graphite nut and a high mass cast bridge. For those in the know, the 80’s Matsumoku-made guitars are bordering on legendary for build quality and this is no exception. This bass has a great low-medium action. Nut slots filed to perfection. Intonation is spot on. Absolutely no dead spots on the neck. Truss rod works freely in both directions. Tuners are smooth and solid. Controls are volume and tone and also a mini-toggle switch to disconnect the battery, allowing you to leave the lead plugged in without wasting battery charge. Not a heavy bass but not uber-light either. I have no way of weighing it accurately but I’d guess it is somewhere around 8.5lbs (please don’t take that as gospel though). Hangs nicely on the strap. Noticeably lighter than my Westone Thunder anyway, which itself feels like a feather compared to something like an Aria SB700/1000. With the EMG, it punches beautifully through a band mix and gives it a much more hardcore feel and tone than the standard bass. A unique vintage bass that truly looks the part in a modern rock band.
