Stacker Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 There's a bass on ebay with a Strat coil in the neck position. With a lower inductance, won't this pickup sound rather weak? Why not just put the correct pup back in? I'm all for experimenting but FFS!!! Quote
Stacker Posted October 5, 2013 Author Posted October 5, 2013 I've emailed the seller for his reasoning for doing this. Interesting mod. Quote
LukeFRC Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 didn't one of the musicmasters have strat pups in them from stock? Quote
If it's the seller I think it is, the "reasoning" has got to be simply that he had a strat pickup lying around and it fitted in the hole. It seems eccentric, but at least he hasn't chiselled great big holes in the body. Quote
neepheid Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 I put a lipstick strat pickup (the hottest one I could find) in a Squier Bronco once. Sounded pretty good to me, and looked fantastic. Quote
If it's the Westone, he says that he put a Bronco pickup in there but changed the cover to a strat type. Not that it makes any difference as the Bronco and early Musicmasters used Strat pickups anyway. Does make me wonder what's living in the Bronco though. Quote
Stacker Posted October 6, 2013 Author Posted October 6, 2013 Apparently, according to a correspondent/friend/alter-ego', it's been 'brought back from the dead'!! The correspondent who has witnessed the resurrection also states that it's 'the first spalted maple one'. Wonder how he knows that? I smell sock-puppet account. Still curious about how that front pup sounds Quote
