It's an 80s A series. Pickup has been upgraded to a Fender Custom Shop and TI Flats fitted. Great bass!!!

[color=#888888]In the 1980's when Fender Japan WAS Fender, they started making the medium scale P Basses. Fender US did not like the idea at first and only granted them the rights only to use the Squier brand. Eventually - down the road - Fender US approved the idea and allowed the Fender decal to be planted on the headstock. The interesting thing to note is that all Fender Japan Squier and Fender medium scale P Basses from the era were literally identical. On the same assembly line crafted by the same people using identical hardware. Only difference was - they used alder and ash sometimes on the Fender brand bodies - instead of basswood - and the maple from the nicer stack was used for the Fender necks - although I have seen some pretty amazing neck wood on the Squier necks on some medium scalers. There were eventually a few more color options on the Fenders too.[/color]

I love the build, feel, and tone.

Very nice. I love my Roscoes. Mine are sans mags with Richard McLish RMC Midi systems. Wondering when Keith made yours? As far as I know, I was the first medium scaler in 1999, with my second one a year or two later. The first one he made me was Birdseye Maple:

Yeah, the Roscoe's are more than amazing. Keith is certainly one of my heros in the bass world. He also finished my Viola bass for me - which I designed and had built:

Thanks so much for the kind words. Yeah, I always wanted a violin bass but I never felt comfortable with the Hofners. The necks were short scale (mine is medium) and I found them to be really cramped in the upper register and so light they just were not for me. So I designed one and had it built for me robbing and transplanting the electronics kit and bridge from a Variax Line Six bass.

Here is my offering! I recently finished this bass, it was my first 32" scale that I have built and also I believe its the first I have played. It turns out I really like the medium scale, everything just feels a bit more comfortable.

I never really liked the Hofner violin basses. I had a Welson 40 years ago, which I did quite like playing, but this is such a great looking bass it blows that one out of the water. It must be a great feeling to have created something like that.

Don't know if they've been mentioned but the Westone Concords were Medium Scale and
I think the Thunder II was as well, need to check that though. Yep Westone forum says
a shortie.

There is a good looking Hondo medium scale in the classifieds for just £130. Hondo make some great basses. Similar to my Aria CSB medium scales. Definitely worth a look.

What's the feeling about low b's on 32" scale basses??
I'm tempted by one, but only ever played a 34/35" 5's and I find them quite a stretch.
it's difficult to try as its in Europe and I'm in the uk.

One of these was my first medium scale and I find I really like it. I bought an Aria Pro II CSB 450 Black and Gold from Kukkunyan on here and it is awesome. As Simon says, a bit more growl than a Precision, great rock bass, really comfortable. And beautifully constructed, too.

And this is now mine. Currently my 'go to, best and favourite bass' - straight out of the box when it arrived it felt 'right' has put the others on the bench.

I don't know exactly what it is but the 32" scale just seems perfect for me.

I might let my 650 go at some point. Depending on how skint I get, as the 550 does pretty much everything I need.

You got a 550 in the end then?
I have another TSB350 now but not quite as good feel or balance as the last one - it is my go to bass though for the bluesy rock I play at the moment. Slightly heavier so that may be why, but a nicer colour for me - I am fickle that way and fall in and out of love with black guitars.
Am in the process of converting my home build pbass into medium scale by adding a medium scale Squier tele bass neck. Just need to double check my measuring before I get the router out - holidays got in the way mid project!!!

I may have to bite the bullet and get a TSB 550 or 650 eventually, just to see what the difference the set and thru neck makes. Generally I like bolt on necks for both bass and guitar for the extra bite they give but I am curious. I had a set neck Cardinal series bass but it didn't quite have the same aggressive qualities as the bolt on... the TSB are much better made though.
