I was lookin at Youtube and watched Sweet- Love is like Oxygen, then thinking it is the same band that made Little Willy.
Anyone know of other bands that have had songs , but sound so different that you wouldn`t assume they were the by same band?

But the songs were written by completely different people. Little Willy was written (for them?) by Chinn/Chapman whereas Love Is Like Oxygen was written by the band's guitarist Andy Scott along with Trevor Griffin.

There was also six years between the two records. You'd hope that a band would develop somewhat in that time.

Edit: there's probably more difference between Little Willy and it's B-side "Man From Mecca" than than Love Is Like Oxygen...

Maybe, but if you take Slade, no matter how many different sounds they had, you always knew it was them from Noddy Holders voice. I personally wouldn`t know that early Sweet was the same Brian Connolly in the later sound. Usually, I believe you can tell either by the voice or style if it was the same band

I'd say the difference was always there, well before Love is Like Oxygen. They'd been writing, and had a cult following for, their own B sides on most/all of the early hits. They came out of the heavy rock closet with the album 'Sweet Fanny Adams' in 1974 - the track 'Set Me Free' was a belter of a rock tune. Mick Tucker had a huge following as a powerful and talented rock drummer.

Does anyone know for sure that it is actually Brian Connolly doing the lead vocal on Love Is Like Oxygen? All the band were excellent singers, he didn't actually have any part in writing that particular song, and quit the band soon after the album it was on came out.

I've been thinking about this all day, avoiding the obvious ones with line up changes like Floyd and Fleetwood Mac.

I really like it when people properly evolve though rather than just change a little. Michael Jackson springs to mind. Snoop Dogg (although he might have changed his name). How about Kenny Rogers?

I imagine Radiohead would fall into this category. Think how different genre first album is to last album - I was always surprised how different they had gone.

So, pretty much any band that stays together for more than a couple of years then? ;)
[/quote]Yeah it seems so.
But a lot of the bands that change sound usually have a few changes in personnel such as the original Fleetwood Mac to the other . If you take Sweet, the personnel never changed, although added to, but the singer didn`t have such a strong voice that you could automatically tell it was the same band. Although as pointed out to me, I don`t know Sweet that well, so maybe if you followed the band you might know. If Noddy Holder was in that band, you would instantly know as his voice is fairly unique, along with Brian Johnson.
