Roland Rock
I almost stopped a short way in, as the slapping was awful (however skillful). However, I actually enjoyed a lot of the fingerstyle stuff. It was very very busy, but in some ways that suited the machine gun velocity of the vocals. Then he slapped, tapped and did chords which seemed to be more if a 'look what I can do' exercise, rather than playing what was best for the song. bubinga5
to be fair its just one video. this guy might be a hold down the groove, type of player, hes just showing his chops.? but this video/playing is not for me. less really is more sometimes, . anyway, his jazz bass is wonky, and he looks like Vanilla Ice. Not so keen on the slapping but his fingerstyle playing is very slick. I can understand why some folks will hate it... But I thought that in parts it was great. Just not something I could listen to for more than a few minutes
icastle
Somewhat unsurprisingly, not really my cup of tea. The various parts were OK, but to me, the whole thing just came across as someone determined to show every technique they know in one go. skej21
I can't even concentrate on the playing... The weird proportions of the bass and against the player's tummy make me feel dizzy. It's like watching a bass player in a circus mirror!

bubinga5
i think the general consensus is that alot of bassists/musicians dont like fret w***ing. i am one of those people. in the words of Alan Partridge. its just saaaaaad.
Guest McBass
Personally i don't get the fret w***ing..just a dude showing his skills off. I like the way he phrases rhythmically with the rap, but hey ho...each to their own. All good!
bubinga5
yeah for sure, i know where your coming from.. this is just one video. he is fret w***ing, but why not.? hes a great bassist. but in a musical context its a little ego driven. dont get me wrong i dig his skills

He did some really tasteful stuff counterbalanced with some sheer tastelessness. There were a couple of the fingerpicked phases he did which got me all excited, really cool. krysh
good player, I just can't watch stuff like this til the end anymore. somehow bores me to death.
EssentialTension
Some nice phrases and cool fingerstyle but I hated the slapping and the tapping and the whole thing seemed like showing off and look at me. I've never been in a band where I would have not got the sack for being all over a tune like that. It's what you don't play.
