BenLockin
Afternoon all. Im looking the downsize my rig yet keep the huge tone. I run a line 6 lowdown into a hatke 4x10 at the moment. What are everyones thoughts on 2x12s, 1x15s etc. Also, lightweight heads as the line 6, although great tone is a beast on the old lbs. Thanks. JapanAxe
Welcome Ben, you'll like it here. Lots of choice when it comes to lightweight heads and cabs. I suggest you start by reading the Basschatters' reviews.
davehux
I'm assuming you've had a bit of a look through the threads on here? Whatever you do, don't buy a Barefaced cab
discreet
Save yourself a lot of time and trouble - just buy a Barefaced cab. http://barefacedbass.com/
brensabre79
Get a Class D lightweight Head - there are lots to choose from, all with different character (mainly down to the Pre-amp) My personal favourite at the moment is the Carvin BX series - the BX500 is amazing value, weighs about the same as a car stereo and is seriously loud with a decent cab. The tone you're after may differ though... There are many lightweight cabs on the market. A GOOD 2x12 will be comparable with your 4x10 in terms of the sound/volume. I use a Barefaced, but there are many others around. Barefaced stuff is very very good, they have higher spec drivers than most, but it is not the cheapest cab around, so depends on your budget. There's a few deals knocking around on lightweight 2x12 cabinets. Especially end of line stuff, or even secondhand (have a look on here). Marc S
As others have said, there's lots of choice Not tried a barefaced cab, I use Markbass gear, and I think it's awesome It's also relatively lightweight Phil Jones also do some really small amps & cabs, which although they're tiny, pack a real punch Definitely keep your eye on the secondhand section on here Enjoy the forum
bassicinstinct
Welcome BenLockin. I use an Ashdown Superfly 500 watt head and Ashdown Superfly 2x8 and 1x15 cabs. About as light as you are likely to find and, IMHO, a great sound. Also, due to the completely undeserved (IME) bad reputation, if you can find the range used, it does tend to be VERY reasonably priced. Good luck!! Thunderpaws
Head over to www.bassdirect.com and check out the Genz Benz section...amazing deals on complete rigs at the moment as they are being closed by Fender, their parent company, though warranty will still be honoured by Fender. BenLockin
Cheers guys, the replies are much appreciated. I have heard alot about barefaced but are a little out of my price range atm. Any thoughts on the ashdown mi series?
Thunderpaws
I tried a mibass 12 inch with my streamliner. It seemed well made but didn't really sing with that head like others I tried. Ended up going fir a matching genz focus cab. Depending on the head you end up with I would certainly consider the mibass cab. Guitarguitar had them in stock. How about one or the TKS cabs that some peeps are raving about on here. Maybe you could get a try out somwwhere.
Lozz196
Check out some local bands and when you hear a bassist whose tone you like, take a look at their gear. Once you find a brand that seems to always produce a tone you like - for me it was Markbass - then check out their range.
