Donnyboy Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Does anyone know any background to it? I know he also played a Yamaha, but I remember in the fairly recent documentary ( Last Orders), he said it must hold the record for being one of the most gigged basses- it certainly has been about a while! New album out soon too Quote
Spike Vincent Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 I believe it's a '69 and he's had it since new? Quote
miles'tone Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Cor, I was only thinking the same myself earlier. I found an old live tape this morning and had it on in my van today. Great gig! His bass tone there is as good as it gets in my opinion. Quote

spencer.b Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 I'm pretty sure it's a spaghetti logo and I think it's got clay dots which which would make it early sixties One of my all time favorite players and singers too, great they're finally receiving the critical acclaim they deserve. So unusual to hear English artists singing in their own accents and referencing their own culture so directly. Everyone should have the One fing an annuver album Quote
lojo Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 There needs to be more chas n dave in the covers world Quote
miles'tone Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 (edited) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JktycNwNwNg Just found out they played in Cardiff where I live on Saturday. Gutted, would have loved to have gone. I had no idea they were back as I thought Dave had long retired. New album That's What Happens is out end of the month. DorsetBlue Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 Dave announced he was going to retire when his wife died (I think she was their manager too?). Seems he has got the taste for it again, which is good to see. Quote
thebigyin Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 See Chas n Dave first time back in '79 when they were first on the bill at Knebworth they was great....seen them a few times since, top geezers entertainers and musicians to boot....and not forgetting Mickey Burke on Drums......geertcha. allighatt0r Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 They're both fantastic, saw them live this year in Norwich. The bass is awesome, hard to find good pictures but it was sat on the stage before the came out, I wanted to go and stare adoringly at it from the edge of the stage, but got told off by the girlfriend... allighatt0r Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 This is a fantastic BBC 4 Chas and Dave documentary by the way, and he does talk about the bass at one point (just don't ask me at what point exactly, sorry!) If so, I really like it and am glad that for one they`re back and for two that they`re putting out quality material again. Answering my own question, yes, the new album will be out soon, and this, Two Worlds Collide is the new song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCKJVDxTr04 Edited October 16, 2013 by Lozz196 Quote
spongebob Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 I was taken as an 11 year old to see them in 1985! Must have been influenced - great live act. I can still remember how well they were received. I always remember the order of potting the coloured snooker balls from 'Snookerloopy' Quote
Spike Vincent Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 After an extensive expedition into the loft I have located the issue of Bass Guitar magazine from 2007 with Dave Peacock in it.All he says about his bass is that he got it in 1969. Quote
Japhet Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 Chas is also a top class bass player. Think he used to play bass in Heads Hands and Feet. Quote
