Twin neck fretless + fretted - do they exist?

I've searched on the forum (badly, as I anticipate being informed after this), but haven't found anything about bass guitars with twin necks that have one fretless and one fretted (4-string).

In my quiet band, I am forever changing from one to the other, and it would be so neat to have both to hand. Even to the point of playing with each neck in different parts of the same song.

I guess you can commission such a beast, but I'm not in that market yet. And, the fretless should be the top neck too!

Oooo, you got any links?

Washburn Bantam: more photos here, though the associated eBay ad is long gone. Hippie not included.

Also, a web search found this thing. Don't know if I like the angle between the necks..?

I've got a Washburn as in the photo, and I'm in Harrogate!

I was going to take it to the bash next week.

You Dark Horse, you! I'd love to have a go on it some time Kieth. Unfortunately, I can't do the Bass Bash, as I'm playing at the Blues Bar that afternoon with an acoustic Angie Shaw threesome.

A threesome with Angie Shaw eh? Well some guys have all the luck!

Pop round sometime and have a go if you like Phil.

As for John's Conklin double neck, I always find it funny how that bass has become more famous than him! Everyone has seen the bass but I'll be damned if anyone can remember a single song he has written! I always mean to check his band out but never get round to it!

Allo

I used to own a white `Hellborg' twin necked Wal - fantastic bass but you needed major corsetry prior to any form of gig or even rehearsal - weighed a ton! Mine was originally custom built for a session player who specified that the `top' neck be a lined fretless. The flight case has been used as an aircraft hanger for some time!

The legendary Wal triple neck was originally commissioned by Rick Wakeman to be played by his bassist at the time, Roger `budgie' Newell who later went on to become known as part of Bassist magazine's editorial team. Originally, the top neck was a regular 6 string guitar, the middle neck was fretted and the lower neck fretless. When Rick disbanded the English Rock Ensemble, he later gave the bass to Chris Squire who used it live in concert for the track `Awaken' (this tune being my all time favourite piece of music). Chris later changed the tuning of the `guitar' neck such that the strings were tuned in octave pairs `Aa Dd Gg Cc' - I think (think 8 string bass less the bottom E and octave e etc),

Check out Trevor Raggatts Wal site for pics and info:

I can only see a 4/6 twin body, but thanks for the suggestion.
Mine's the same as the one above, almost. From H&S in Germany. Do not recommend buying from them!!
Mine's the same as that except it's got two fretted necks. Or it did have, until a couple of nights ago, when the 4-string neck lost its frets (so I've got bats on my 4-string neck). They also do twin-neck headlesses, or at least did - I don't know what their current state of play is.
