Circa 83/84

WAL custom lined fretless £740 with one of THE best bass heads ever produced and a custom 12" + 15" bass cab fitted with Peavey Black Widows.

Both amp channels on with the top passive channel doing most of the low end and the bottom para EQ channel doing the mids.

It was a very nice bass tone.

That picture of you and the Wal/ Peavey rig back in the early '80's has made me a bit emotional! I can only imagine how you feel looking at it. It's easy to forget just how popular fretless bass was back in those days. I got my first fretless back to 1983 and I still remember my dismay at how difficult it was to play in tune, even with fret lines.

Nice new bass and a big amp in a small bedroom. Brings back memories of me and my Ibanez Musician/Trace Elliott rig around the same time.

If they ever invent time travel I know what era I would go back to, that's for sure.

Good to see that you are still rocking.🙂

Happy times right enough. I used to practice approx 2-3hrs a night after work. When i had the WAL bass i wasn't really gigging much, i had decided to spend time learning jazz-rock style bass like Brand X, Bruford, Camel just to improve my playing and technique.

I'm far busier gig wise nowadays at 64 yrs old than i ever was in my 20's.

I had a unlined Fender P fretless before the WAL and i liked the feel of a fretless. I still have my Overwater 6 string custom fretless but very rarely play it these days.

Cool pic. What's the bass?  Looks a bit like a Parker Fly guitar (sorry about the g word 😊)

Funnily enough, it's a Parker PB51. It's basically a Flybass that's made in Indonesia with slightly less fancy woodwork.

I loved the spalted maple so I had to have it - the EMGs sound great as well.

I will next time. Seen yous at the Hedworth Hall earlier in the year and had a weekend off so headed down with a bag of refreshments!

Great stuff, with the weather threatening all day that day, refreshments certainly made the difference to the atmosphere! 😆🍻

As a cellist playing in an orchestra, I don't get to have the glamorous get ups or stage set up. Most concerts tend to be in churches as there are so few venues that can take an orchestra and have space for audience.
