Weird custom GUITAR valve amp
£100

Recommended Posts

Back in the days when I was doing loads of trading on eBay I accumulated a bunch of weird & wonderful stuff left over from various trades and re-builds.

I should have sold it as a job-lot, or binned it or something. Instead, I threw money at it.

For no very good reason (seeing as I don't actually play guitar) I had my then-amptech try and bring all the bits together into this piece of strangeness:

There is a slight possibility that you're thinking "WTF is that?". It's a 1940's Ekco Radio box & chassis that have been adapted to become a fairly startling guitar amp.

It's hardly been used so the pots have become pretty crackly, but it all works, it sounds good (especially with the right guitar, which is in fact a Telecaster :D ) and would make a nice project for someone looking to tart it up a bit.

You may also conceivably we wondering "What makes this worth £100?".

But hey! I might well be open to offers ...

Good questions ... dodgy answers, I'm afraid.

Wattage is best worked out from those two power tubes. I seem to remember it was supposed to be 15W but it was years ago and I'm probably wrong.

The speaker is tiny ... 6" or something. I'll take the back off again (if it ever stops raining here) and get the details off the back of the unit.

Tone stack? We are now WAY outside my comfort zone. I have no clue how to answer that.

No particular problem with posting, except that an item as bulky as this is likely to be bloody expensive.

OK, maybe I was a tad harsh on the little fella ...

That's a Technics EAS-23PL01SB 8-Ohm speaker, and it's actually 8".

It's also quite clearly a new unit, now barely played in.

Poor little mongrel needs a new home doesn't it! If I wasn't in the same situation Jack - i.e., having amassed large quantities of subsequently unused eBay bargains (only bargains of course because no-one else wanted them - I'd be, as they say 'all over this'

And let's face it, I probably will be!
