louisthebass Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Saw this posted on Facebook originally, great bit of footage of Paul Turner and his band Shuffler tearing it up on a couple of groovy covers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhemzPTYdJE Quote
Heathy Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Very nice - thanks for posting. However, if our drummer started Rhythm Stick that fast, I'd probably sh*t myself. Quote
Mike Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Fantastic! Must catch these guys at some point. Quote
fretmeister Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 That was ace. Who is the singer? I recognise him from somewhere. Quote
kevin_lindsay Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 That's Dan. You might have seen him on tv last summer at various festivals singing with Dizzee Rascal. He was also a finalist on the X Factor a few years back Quote
chris_b Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Nice playing but the singer's not for me. Quote
Lowender Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 A good example of busy playing that's still in the pocket. Quote

largo Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 An example of very talented musicians murdering a classic, imo.... Quote
Couple of support gigs coming up (Shalamar at the O2 and Sheila E at The Bridge) but no headliners booked at the moment. Maybe sometihng looming in Paris I saw them play Rhythm Stick live at the beginning of the year - great gig! Quote

miles'tone Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Nothing wrong with that, enjoyed it. Some mates having a blast and playing pretty darn tastily. No one here ever play a cover version of a song that's not been quite as good as the original or what? Quote
nottswarwick Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 (edited)
Yeah. It's not the most tasteful guitar I've ever heard either. flyfisher Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013
Nothing wrong with that, enjoyed it. That was my thought while reading the comments. The problem with this song is that original was so brilliantly done that it's very hard to put a slight spin on it and have it sound any better. Plus, as MrF rightly say Dury's vocals worked far better than a more 'singy' singer. But I reckon the drum and bass had it pretty well nailed. Thanks for posting (even though I still can't play that bloody line and would rather not be reminded of it!!!) Quote
flyfisher Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 That clip got me watching Youtube for a bit and I came across this wonderful bit of Norman Watt Roy soloing at 1:30 and no slapping in sight http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCIWmldNbyA Quote
Grassie Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 The version of Alphabet St. was cool though. That singer Dan is a pretty excellent drummer too, I seem to recall seeing him on The Pop X Idol Talent Factor playing his kit at one of those contrived "at home" scenes. Quote

lefrash Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Absolutely loved that. 'Murdering a classic' is a ridiculous thing to say. Its different, but certainly not ruining it! Quote
