Badass
Has any one had the chance to A / B the Carl martin Bass Drive and the EBS Valve Drive back to back? I'm don't have anywhere near me that has them both in stock. I'm specifically looking for a little bit of grit rather than full on mayhem. HazBeen
I have owned the EBS Valve Drive and currently use the Carl Martin on my main board. No contest, Carl Martin is more flexible, has much better EQ and function more like a tube preamp (i.e. how hard you strike the string, impacts od). I have no issue in getting more detailed and technical but if you are looking to warm up your tone Carl Martin any day of the week. EBS is a good overdrive, but a little bit of a one trick pony in my opinion and certainly not best suited to warm/liven up tone.
Badass
Thanks for the input. Anyone else have any opinions on these two?
fretmeister
Just to throw another idea, the Wampler Sovereign is superb on bass. Seems to let the low stay as it should be, and the tone and mid behaviour control really allow a good tone set up.
