Ampeg SVP-Pro

I realised I miss my Ampeg SVP-Pro a lot and I want a new one.

They're not all that common though, and I'm a bit out of the loop (a lot out of the loop). Is there anything fairly similar about that I could look into for a gnarly 1u preamp?

I guess if you wanted a smaller form factor then hooking up say a DarkGlass BxK or Vintage pedal to any other preamp would give you some Grrrrrr

Oh and on the subject of pedals - There's a Catalinbread SFT for sale on BC too. I've not tried one myself, but apparently they do a good job of adding some grind to bass! (I appreciate you are asking for a 1u preamp, but I thought I'd offer options!)

I really wish the Darkglass stuff came in 1u racks. Ever since the first video of the B3K came out I really wanted one - it was the sound in my head! Always been a bit steep though.

I tried the SFT out before and didn't really like it though I was really hyped up for it too!

If I don't just go straight into the pre, and straight out to the power amp, I'll probably end up splitting signal, running a boost/drive into the front end of a pre, and feeding clean sansamp into the FX loop or something silly

I gave up waiting and got a VT Bass pedal instead, but I think they'll be available very soon.

I'd suggest looking for it. There are many great units out there, but if you want Ampeg, you should go for Ampeg. I have svp-pro, I had Sansamp vt. Sansamp is great, amazing...but really poor compared to real Ampeg.

VT pedal and SVP are Worlds apart. I'm guessing the folks who think the VT sounds like decent Ampeg haven't played through decent Ampeg. The SVP through SVT-300 was one of the most sublime bass sounds I've made

I really miss mine too. I had a blackface one and it was lovely but it didn't just do 'grind'; it was capable of all sorts of sounds - all of them good!

I have extensively gigged an SVT-CL and I very much rate the VT Bass. Your choice of rig obviously has a bearing on the result and this of course is very subjective!

I like VT very much. It's the pedal of the future imho. But soundwise if you want Ampeg sound, Ampeg will do better.

Found one on Gumtree and messaged the chap selling it. He replied, and I sent one back trying to barter the postage in with it, then... no reply.

Left it a couple of days and messaged him again, and he said I didn't reply to him, so he sold it to someone else. Absolutely gutted!

I loved my SVP but needed to match it with an Ampeg power amp to really get he sound I wanted. Problem was that the SVP plus SVT300 was 5u, weighed a ton, and was about 250 more watts than I needed. Now have an V4-B and am very happy

Ampeg premps come up for sale from time to time, I would hold out for one. I've had the SVPCL, SVP Pro and SVTIIP and ultimately kept the latter. I haven't tried the Darkglass B3K but I have been mightily impressed with the youtube demos I've heard.
