Might be joining a 60's style band and have been trying to think of some basses that may fit the look. I Can only think of a few like the violin bass and the Epi Jack Cassady. Can anyone name any others similar in looks to the Epiphone? Cheers.

These are good value and well repected.

I'm with Hobbayne here, nice bass. Hofner also do a Verythin bass and a club bass, both of which are great fun. The Burns Bison always sounded a bit weak to me but looked the part. Assuming you are avoiding the Jazz / Precision route?

Eastwood Classic4 ftw

Actually almost any of the Eastwood basses....I'd love an Airline4 - it loioks like something out of Thunderbirds - God I want one:

I so wish I hadn't visited Eastwood guitar's website now.

Why do I do this to myself?

i am trying to justify not spending the £679 on one of those Thunderbirds props.......and I can't.

I'm gonna be very poor very soon.

+1 on the Epi Rumblekat. Put some flatwounds on and it's a real 60s dream.

BTW, the Jack Cassady is more 70s. I reckon.

Correct - the JC is in the spirit of the Les Paul Signature bass - 1973-1979.

I think the most popular bass in the 60s was a Fender Precision, you might be able to pick one up somewhere... :)

Absolutely. A nice sunburst '64 P would do you very nicely. ;)

Yeah, trying to stay away from Jazz and Precisions as they fit every era and don't stand out as much. The Squier CV in red does look like it MIGHT do! Thanks for the suggestions.

Good call Ian, their whole range is very 60s and retro looking.

What about a Vox Foundation bass? They're only £173!

[/quote]That - actually a home built copy of that ^ was my first bass :)

Actually the Bass was only £73.10 - it's the amp that's £173 B)

(Did I tell you I used to work for Vox - back in the days!)

There are various Eko basses with that kind of look. Do a bit of Googling and check them out.

Just my opinion, but the most definative "60's looking" bass would have to be the Fender Jazz.

It baffles me how its aesthetic has endured and flourished through every change in bass fashion. Such has been its popularity in every age of the electric bass since its conception, that I think folk forget that, stylistically, the Fender Jazz is very much a 60's bass.

Check out Italia and Danelectro basses too if you want the retro look like that Eastwood.

+1

The Ibanez Jet King and DeArmond Jet Star are worth a gander as well.

Danelectro basses always look the part in terms of retro, I find.
Try a DC or a longhorn.
Failing that, a Precision (perhaps blue flower or paisley even) or Jazz would be authentic looking

Another +1 for the Allen Woody Rumblekat! How about a Fender Coronado or maybe a Gretsch bass, like a Broadkaster?
