I've tried Audacity but it seems to hate saving files as MP3 files. I've tried a couple of freebies but had to restore my laptop to yesterday because of bugs. Quote

[/quote] Well, I can import an MP3 file to Audacity and change the pitch. Can't seem to save it as an MP3 file, however. Quote
neepheid Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 You don't save an MP3 in Audacity, you export the file to MP3. So don't use File > Save, use File > Export. Quote

Here are the instructions for anyone interested: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/faq_i18n?s=install&i=lame-mp3 (...it looks more complicated than it is!) If you have iTunes, you can very easily convert a WAV file to MP3 by dragging the file into iTunes, finding it in your playlist then right-clicking the file and choosing 'Convert to MP3' (this option is also available in the Advanced menu). I use an TASCAM MB-1 which has looping, speed shift, and pitch shift and you can plug a bass directly into to it and play along - not sure if that's what you were after? Quote

[/quote] Thanks for the ABRSM App. Is this only for smartphones and tablets? I had a quick look at its features and it shifts pitch as well as speed. It asks me for login, password etc. Ideally, I just want a simple piece of free software I can install on my laptop that enables me to load an MP3 file, change the song pitch using notes rather than % shift (?), then save the altered MP3 file without faffing about with extra add-on programs. Something like this but without the adware, malware, bugs... [/quote] The set up for Audacity really isn't difficult. It's just a list of short instructions which, if you follow them, will have you shifting pitch and exporting MP3s in less than five minutes. I haven't used it myself as it's PC only software, but the GUI looks remarkably similar to the ASD (posted above). Audacity is an amazingly useful bit of software, but making changes on the fly isn't its forte (IMHO). Edited October 22, 2013 by Musky Quote
