Phil Adams Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 http://www.bbc.co.uk/arts/0/24672968 Might be worth recording? Quote
Nick Riffed Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Jimi Hendrix. Still one of my all time favourite bass players. Quote
Did he play bass on Let the Come on (Let the Good Times Roll) on Electric Ladyland? I've always listened to that and thought that it doesn't sound like a "bass player", well not a normal one anyway. Just checked wicki, and it does list JH on bass on some tracks, but not that one. JapanAxe Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Jimi often did play bass in the studio, and is on some recorded tracks, including 'House Burning Down'. Quote
Noah Deere Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 I'll make sure to watch this, thanks. Quote
spongebob Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Excellent - thanks for the heads-up. Will go and set the Sky up now - I'm a Jimi devotee! Quote
Jazzneck Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Thanks for letting us know - I'll watch and record this - my yoof on tele again - Just ask The Axis...... Quote
discreet Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 I'm well into this, thanks for the heads-up. Quote
Nick Riffed Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 My understanding is that Jimi played bass on a lot of the tracks on Electric Lady land as Noel Redding was , alledgedly, more interested in being down the pub. Through stuff gleaned from the net and various documentaries over the years it seems like Hendrix wrote a lot of the bass lines for Redding, also that he had played in several bands in the old days purely as the bass player. Already set my recorder too. Quote
Bassman Sam Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 (edited) Phil. I love you man. I would have missed this otherwise. Sky+ is now set. Edited October 26, 2013 by Bassman Sam Quote
Jacqueslemac Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Thanks for the tip-off. I'm in France at the moment, but the wonders of Sky+ means I've just set it up to record. Quote
tom skool Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Did he just play the bass upside down as in that photo?!! Or did he restring it left handed I wonder Quote
Phil Adams Posted October 27, 2013 Author Posted October 27, 2013 My pleasure gentlemen. Now you just watch me forget it!!!! Quote

Phil Adams Posted October 28, 2013 Author Posted October 28, 2013 On one of the Ron Wood radio shows Ron was telling about hanging out with JH and other guitarists in hotel rooms and they would swap guitars. Ron said JH would play a rh guitar and it wouldn't make much difference (seem to remember that he added something like "which was sickening really" or similar) Quote
Jazzneck Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Enjoyed that even though a lot of it has been shown before in different forms. Nice that the mans' shyness and humility came across for a change. BTW Dweezil - ever heard of Pete Townshend and The Who in September 1964, Wealdstone? Quote
In the documentary they mention that - just after a little clip of him playing a red right-handed Gibson SG 6-string which looked very much as if it was strung right-handed. Interesting documentary, using very high-tech ouija boards to not only contact Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell but also to film them. Quote
Lord Sausage Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Watched it. T'was class. What about Macca claiming responsibility for Hendrix being booked for Monterray Pop. What a nob! Quote

Lozz196 Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 He claimed he invented Frank Sinatra, he lyin.......... On a serious note, just watched it and thought it was quite good. I`m not a particular fan of Hendrix but thought this show portrayed him in a very good light, and a fair bit different to how I`d imagined him. Quote
