Annoying Twit Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROLAND-3-4-BASS-GUITAR-/321237144196?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item4acb39d284 I have a vague suspicion that the 'Roland' logo may have been applied at a time significantly after purchase. Quote
BassBus Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Interesting. My very first bass was exactly the same shape and had exactly the same neck. It had Raver on the headstock and it was truely crap. Cost me the princely sum of £27 in 1977. Still have the bits in a box if anyone wants it. Quote
discreet Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Er... as far as I'm aware, Roland do not, and never have, manufactured bass guitars. Surely he cannot be serious? Quote
Annoying Twit Posted October 27, 2013 Author Posted October 27, 2013 When I first saw the listing, I thought it would be one of the bass synths that they made using factories such as Fujigen. But, it wasn't Quote
Bassassin Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 BassBus is spot on, that's exactly what it is - a cheap 70s Japanese or Korean starter bass, and unsurprisingly, nothing to do with Roland! Jon. Quote
waynepunkdude Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Apart from the split scratch plate it looks a lot like an Aria I'm referbing. Quote

neepheid Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013
Those GR basses aren't, per se, Roland. The range was produced by Greco, although built by FujiGen. There were more conventional models in the range, in addition to midi equipped ones. These just happen to be the top of the range versions fitted with the Roland midi pickup/output circuit, like the current Fender/Roland Stratocaster series.
While I appreciate that the question I quoted was whether or not Roland "manufactured" basses, I was merely showing the precedent for the Roland logo being legitimately on a bass guitar. Made, manufactured, commissioned, badge engineered, whatever. Of course, the bass highlighted by the OP is simply a random bass with a Roland sticker stuck on the headstock. Quote
discreet Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 So the seller is to be applauded for adding extra value by 'badge engineering'! Quote
Musky Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 To be fair, that it's a house clearance find and he's "had the guitar checked out" tends to suggest that he's not a musician and probably knows next to nothing about brands. Or perhaps that's the idea. :ninja: Quote
jsixties Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Actually I still have a bunch of those Roland stickers at home, they were given for free at the Roland booths in Pro Audio shows in the 80's. Nothing related with bass or guitars anyway. Quote
petetapner1 Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Looks very much like a Satellite bass that I owned in the late 70's. Not a great instrument, but my very first bass! Quote
