paulbkeeves Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I'm trying to identify the strings that are currently on my 69 Fender P. They were on the bass when I bought it last year from the original owner. He said that the strings had been on for 30 years! But they still sound great. What i know: There are silks on the ball end only (Green or Blue? I don't know, i'm colour blind) No silk on the other end. No taper. Roundwound. Brass ball ends. Any ideas folks? ikay Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 (edited) According to a post on this TB thread (near the bottom of page 4), old Fender flats (60s era) had turquoise silk at the ball end and were plain at the tuner end. Maybe these are old Fender rounds? http://www.talkbass....720/index4.html Edited October 28, 2013 by ikay Quote
sblueplanet Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I had a set of Ernie Ball strings with blue silk. Use a micrometer to determine the string gauge. That might help someone tell you what they are. Quote

sblueplanet Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Were those letters even in existence 30yrs ago? Quote

Funny and informative.
I had a set of Ernie Ball strings with blue silk. Use a micrometer to determine the string gauge.
