dodgnofski Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Hi Guys, what would you think the chances are of a 1968 P bass having a birds eye maple neck being factory fitted & original from new ?? Ta very glad . Quote
Legion Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 'Birdseye' is a naturally occuring figuring in maple so there is no reason that a bass could not get lucky and land a neck with some figuring. I've seen vintage basses with it and obviously plenty without. What are the chances? impossible to give you a number beyond the fact that birdseye occurs in about 1% of maple. Quote
Spike Vincent Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Possible, but I've never seen one. Quote
dodgnofski Posted October 30, 2013 Author Posted October 30, 2013 Thanks Guys, Very much appreciated !! Quote
EssentialTension Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 I have seen a purportedly 1960s Fender Precision with a birds-eye neck but the neck wasn't the only thing that was not 1960s Fender. But never say never. Quote
Rick's Fine '52 Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Highly possible. My '58 P has a birdesye neck, and so does my '61 Jazz. I've also seen dozens of others. If I knew how to post pics (Hasn't worked on here for over a year?), i'd show ya. Rick. Quote
clauster Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 We had a Precision that would have been late 60s or early 70s and it had a great birdseye neck Quote
MrFingers Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Can happen, the '68 Coronado I had here at home had a (subtle) BE as well: Quote

Dood Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 My ole P Bass that reappeared on Basschat some 25 years after I sold it had a really nice neck with a fair amount of Bird’s Eye on it. The neck was an RI on a “70’s” body. Quote
