Immo
At first I disliked used and vintage gear, thinking it's used and bruised. Now I value it the most, as it's well seasoned plus has survived world's hostilities and is still kickin'. Another thing must be the whole idea of a bass with one passive pickup. When I was a newbie, I thought it's limiting. Now I know that more PU's, knobs and switches limit my creativity and the will to try some other fingering/muting/etc. techniques. Third thing will be midrange. In Polish slang, we call the Eq set on lows and highs boost as "Roman's Smile" and Eq set on mid boost as "Sad Roman" (Roman's a common man name in Poland, I don't know the genesis of this term) and as a newbie I used Roman's Smile all the time, thinking it'll be cool. Now I boost only lower mids (~200Hz) and use "brite" switch. As for the non-bass stuff, well... red beans, brie & camembert, spinach of any kind and many other things. Chris Sharman
Alembic Basses. Don't know why just had a completely irrational dislike of them. Think I saw the price and thought "How can they try and justify that?" or something. Played one recently........now asking my boss for a pay rise...... Jazz. Hated it, hated Jazz musicians, hated their clothes, their smug-'look how good we are'-ness, and the fact that even though they are playing as a group they never seem to have been introduced to one another. Then listened to Miles Davis and grew up. Jury still out on tomatoes.
kendall
Five string basses I always hated the feel of the wider fretboard - since i tried the jazz deluxe in a shop, I had to buy it and 18 months later it's hard to put down. Hate goats cheese still.
Chiliwailer
Great topic! 1993 - 2001 I absolutely hated Precisions, I just didn't get it! 2001 - now I love them to death, that's the main bass for me!

Dave_the_bass
Can I have a P please Bob. I never used to like them because, as stupid as it may seem now, when I started as a youngster all the cheap packages you used to get with bass, amp, strap and a set of pitch pipes, you know the deal, were always a P bass copy, usually black or red with a nasty white pickguard. I just associated P basses with cheapness. There were so many other types of bass around that I didn't go near a P for years, and then I got an urge, and now I love 'em ................ still no white plates though please .
This, although I still don't own a P as I prefer a P/J (or 2), I have definitely grown to appreciate them.
gjones
The thick tone of a P bass. Now I get it. If it works for Pino...
I hope that means you are keeping the JV

ChickenKiev
Precision Basses. Yup. I used to hate the look of them. I used to think they looked too generic and would always prefer the look of its jazzier cousin. Granted I'll still always prefer the Jazz Bass, but I've embraced the Precision too. I rather like them now. However, old T-style Precisions are like porn. Why oh why did they swap the old pickguard for that boring 'swoopy' one? Ah well. Yeah, Precisions.
