imo, this is one of the best Chic productions they ever did. Bernard on bass, his bass playing is fantastic on this record. really great groove playing.

Nile on guitar. its a cracker with Fonzi Thornton on vocals. not very well known, but a really cool record. this sort of stuff gets me up in the morning

This is interesting without Sheila B Devotion's vocals.

Usually I quite like mixes without vocals but his one leaves me a bit cold :(

To me it sounds like one long intro waiting for Sheila B to come in and inject some sparkle into it :)

.... a bit like every other instrumental version of a song that originally had vocals?

I think that part of the genius of Rodgers & Edwards was their ability not only to write songs with great hooks but also to create songs where there is plenty of room for the vocals to shine through.

Yep - that's what I was trying to say originally.

That's why i said it was 'interesting' rather than better or as good as which of course it isn't.

It just goes to show how clever Rodgers & Edwards were at writing these songs. There seems a lot going on but when the vocals are stripped away this isn't always the case.

Fantastic, thanks for sharing. As a real Chic fan, this was right under the radar.

There's this too by Fonzi....

We played that song a few times 4yrs ago. Great song and one of my favorite Bernard Edwards basslines. We stopped playing it as it was lost on the punters...no one knew it and lost interest quickly (philistines!). I have been trying to track down that Fonzi Thornton album for a while. It was great seeing him perform with Chic again last year.

Not heard that one, thanks. While a devoted'Nard fan I have to say Niles' guitar playing is outstanding on this. So crisp!
i think your confused, as to why there were signs such as this that day. it was nothing to do with the actual music, it was the lifestyle associated with it.
