Happy Jack
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Jazz-Bass-Guitar-1973-/171159728500?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item27d9ea3174 Genuine 1973 Sunburst Fender Jazz bass not a copy or re issue. This guitar has been in our family since the mid 70's and has always been looked after. It has been gigged but is in very good condition. The guitar comes with a case and the provenance can be verified as a 1973 production item. Presumably he has noticed the slightly non-standard non-original element here ... Musky
Why? Because these things weren't always valuable and some people like to modify instruments.

Sometimes I think that people these days get too worked up about what has been done to old Fenders. It's not as though the instruments are no longer in production, and as well all know the 70s was a decade of very variable quality for Fender. The modification looks to have been tidily done so there a good chance that if there had been other issues with the bass those might have been sorted at the same time. Nibody
Might be a nice sounding beast. Depends whether you want it to play or hang on a wall and admire I suppose. What I hate is these companies that must break up vintage fenders to sell as parts.
brensabre79
Yeah, go easy, it looks like a neat job, and if you really wanted to you could get a genuine 70s scratchplate from one of those nasty breaker types and cover it up. It's not like someone has carved an effigy of Elvis on the headstock... Personally I think that might have an awesome sound if you combine the Gibbo neck PU with the 70s position bridge PU... loads of Sub with added growl. My 70s Jazz just sounds weak with the bridge pickup alone, I always have to blend in a bit of the NPU for the bottom end, I've often thought it would be great to combine it with the tone of my end of neck Ric sound...
