It has very hot pickups though, so it depends on her musical tastes.
paulconnolly
Costco are advertising a Fender Starcaster for about £70 + VAT. no idea what they are like but as a beginner guitar with the Fender name it surely can't be beaten.
Bilbo
I recommend Epiphone starter guitars - loads of choices and I have found the quality consistently good (I recently bought a 335 Dot Studio and it's great). There are loads at Thomann that are in your price range. http://www.thomann.de/gb/epiphone_lp_special_i_ltded_wc_set_1.htm http://www.thomann.de/gb/epiphone1_lp_special_i_ltded_wb_bundle.htm http://www.thomann.de/gb/epiphone_lp_100_ch.htm http://www.thomann.de/gb/epiphone_lp_special_black.htm

The Epiphone Special's are just cheaper wood and pups etc but to a newbie wouldn't be noticeable. That's my twopenneth
Green Alsatian
The Squier and Yamaha Pacifica starter packs are a good starting point and contain all the bits needed to get going. I've had a couple of Pacificas and they're great guitars for the money. My brother got one of the Squier Stop Dreaming... Start Playing! packs and I checked it out for him - nice guitar, perfectly playable out of the box and even better after I'd set it up for him. Yamaha Pacifica: http://www.effectpowersupplies.com/yamaha-pacifica-012-electric-guitar-starter-package-metallic-red-3664-p.asp Squier Pack: http://www.soundsliveshop.com/p/Squier_Stop_Dreaming_Start_Playing_Affinity_Strat_Frontman_Pack_Black/FEN-030-1612-406?CAWELAID=1830894313&catargetid=1823399575&cadevice=c&cagpspn=pla&gclid=CKPaw4bb0roCFWTHtAodIVkAMg If you're able to take your daughter to a shop to try them out, that'd probably help, but I doubt you'd have any trouble with either set bought online. Yes - very good as a start. They also sell for pathetic sums of money. So you should get a real bargain.
+1 to that, my son started on one too. muttley
I showed her some generic pics at the w/e of Strat, Tele, LP and SG type guitars. She likes the Strat most as it "looks like an ordinary electric guitar" or similar words. Solid colours only, no wood finishes . So it's a choice between a Squire Strat and a Yamaha Pacifica.
