EBS_freak Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 (edited) Was pretty bummed out to read the following this morning. Sad how territorial people have become over original music... https://www.facebook...514125188684606 and this coming from a bloke who has forged a career on recycled blues riffs and 12 bar chord progressions stemming from the 30s... Some of the comments are absolutely priceless though. Edited November 4, 2013 by EBS_freak Quote

I'm not sure how somebody in the UK can be prosecuted in the US in this manner... but hey, I'm no law man. I was more shocked by Gwyn's attitude on the whole matter. Comes across as a very bitter individual. Edited November 4, 2013 by EBS_freak Quote
muttley Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 I think the term "cyber squatter" is a bit extreme if the screen shots on the DM website are anything to go by. It seems clear to me that he was a tribute act and nothing more. Ownership of a name or trade mark does not give an individual or organisation any right to a domain name containing the same words. At the end of the day, music is music... and we all do it because we love it? Surely? Quote
muttley Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Agree 100%. I didn't read the comments on FB but it seemed to me that the person who started that thread is a bit of an arsehole to put it mildly. Live and let live, FFS. Quote
flyfisher Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 American eh? Think they own the world. Next thing we know they'll be sending out remote-controlled drone aircraft to take out people they don't like . . . er, hang on . . . . Quote
xilddx Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 A very sad state of affairs. Should never have got to this stage if people were being reasonable. Quote
Kiwi Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 I don't understand how a US court can have jurisdiction over someone living overseas. Quote
BigRedX Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Quite how anyone can form a proper opinion based on an article in the Daily Mail I don't know. Is there anywhere else reporting this with some real facts. Quote
KevB Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 I just want to find out the guy's diet regime so I can shed some blubber myself... Quote
Grangur Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 If ML was that bothered about the domain, why didn't he complain in 2000 or soon after? He's a sad, failing "star" who's simply clutching at straws as he sees his money disappering. Very sad. Its a shame if Dean Torkington can't just ignore the US court's ruling. Quote
molan Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 The parents of a friend of mine were staying in a ritzy LA hotel once and heading down for dinner in the lift. The doors opened on the floor below them and this large American guy flounced in and proclaimed "Hi, I'm Meatloaf". The parents shrank into a corner and rushed out of the lift when it reached the lobby and immediately reported the 'madman' to hotel security Quote
