Happy Jack
I don't solo (I can't anyway, so that was an easy decision to make!) and I don't like bass solos, I don't like listening to them, I don't like seeing others play them. I actually like bass solos even less than I like drum solos and that's really sayin' something. Apart from this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDtsrq9C9YE#t=139 Edited November 4, 2013 by Happy Jack
BassTractor
Thanks for posting! Finally someone who plays like I do! (banging on bass body - - though in my case it's an attempt at reaching the strings). Seriously though, though I don't dislike bass solos like others do, and liked this well enough, happy and effective as it was, what moved me most in this vid was in fact those low double notes. I love relatively tight intervals in the lows.

phil.i.stein
i'm less interested in the solo (although relatively tasteful, as solos go ..) than the pick-up configuration.. what are they ? and why ? (excuse my ignorance) ? Edited November 4, 2013 by phil.i.stein

Now you will have everyone go "But if you like that, you MUST like this one also:". So, I'll go first (bs solo at about 2:35): But seriously, it would be interesting to hear more about why you like this special bass solo, when you in general do not like them. I do like the occational bass and drum solos, but I normally prefer short ones, and I also appreciate them more live than on a studio record. a. gjones
I hate pointless bass solos too. But this melodic solo by Tal Wilkenfeld is the exception http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldt4tWNPSBU
funkgod
Yea great find jack, new to me, al dig abit deeper now. Cheers been a long fan of pontys jig stuff, i remember Randy jackson playing bass on a track on mystical adventures, and in an interview he said ponty was so inspiring that he made him work really hard and ponty squeezed every ounce out of his talent from him. I had alot more respect for randy after hearing it.( drummer is also stunning) A truly inspiring man,..... found it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kH8jn7hwbDo

The first solo at the top is not too bad as it is in line with the music (which is probably music I wouldn't really be listening too in general) but in general I don't see any good point in a bass solo.
