joegarcia Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 (edited) Just took this in as a trade but don't really play 5's. Lovely bass though. It has two small chips, one at the heel and one on the headstock which is reflected in the price. It's otherwise all good and includes the original hard case. It's a gorgeous honeyburst colour. I'm based in Bristol but will consider posting at buyers expense. AndyBob09 Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Without sounding like a total noob (I know I'm about to), what's the difference between the Stingray and the Sterling? I'm a long time Stingray player and looking for something to take on tour as I love my Stingray too much to take on tour so looking for a replacement. Cheers!
joegarcia Posted November 5, 2013 Author Posted November 5, 2013 I'm not 100% sure tbh, I'm pretty sure (please someone correct me here if I'm wrong) that these are the same parts as the Stingray5 but assembled in Indonesia. Pretty ideal tourable stand in for a Stingray5 I'd say
joegarcia Posted November 5, 2013 Author Posted November 5, 2013 Some interesting comments about this bass and the difference to its US made counterpart here: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f8/played-sterling-musicman-ray-35-gc-here-my-review-544157/
Mcgiver69 Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 (edited) There are a couple of differences: - The Stingray has a body made of Poplar and the Sterling Ray has Swamp Ash. - The Sterling is made in Indonesia and the other in USA. - I think the Sterling Ray's body is slightly smaller than the Stingray. That's all I can think of. Edited November 5, 2013 by Mcgiver69
Horizontalste Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 (edited) My understanding is that the current sterling range are the licenced copies of the musicman basses. Not to be confused with the Musicman Sterling, that's a different bass altogether. Sterlings are to MM what MIM is to Fender, put bluntly.
