BassMate14
This is a very nice amp in fine working condition. It is very light and has a clear and punchy sound. It has enough power for any gig except for Metal vs. two fullstacks of 4x12" maybe. Anyway, this thing is loud. It is a streamlined concept of the UL-series amps which are truely legendary and very expensive. Epifani says that "the pre-amp is identical to Channel One of the UL902", the top-of-the-line model ($2000 new). The Range The Performance Series heads are based on our legendary UL amplifiers, with a few modifications that offer a slightly warmer sound in a streamlined format. The Technology The PS amps maintain the integrity of the input signal and exhibit a noise floor typically found only in recording studios. The 400 watt Class-AB power plant coupled with a Switch-Mode Power Supply, that outperforms digital amp stages in this power range. Coupled with its audiophile grade preamp, the PS sets new standards in sound and affordable instrument amplification. While the front panel suggests a 3-band EQ, the mid-cut switch and mid-cut level control add additional tone-shaping capability. The Sound The PS amps deliver the natural character, drive and impact that makes Epifani amps sought after the world over. That's because they are based on the UL series, considered by many to be the finest sounding bass amplifiers ever made. In fact, the pre-amp is identical to Channel One of the UL902, so you hear all the detail, all the subtleties and all the digging in as if your ears were wired to the output of your bass. The custom-built power stage responds to your every inflection, so your groove drives the music home. You hear all the sound of your bass, only louder." The design goals for the line were to offer uncompromised sonic quality and deliver it an affordable price. Utilizing many of the design elements found in the UL Series line, the Performance Series maintains its own unique sound and look. Epifani engineers employed all types of scientific disciplines in designing the Performance Series products. Working together on the acoustical, mechanical and electrical engineering aspects of the line, they focused on creating an amplifier solution where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. All of the components are carefully selected to meet strict design and manufacturing specifications. The Performance Series solution is really an integrated audio system whose major components were designed to interact with one another to ensure optimum performance. The PS400 is engineered to maintain the integrity of the input signal and to exhibit noise floor levels acceptable only in professional recording environments. No corners were cut to save money on the PS400 design. The class AB amplifier represents the next generation of digital amplifier technology and, coupled with the audiophile-class pre-amp, the PS400 sets the standard in affordable instrument amplification. While the front panel suggests a basic three band EQ, the addition of the mid cut switch and the mid cut level control add an additional stage of tone shaping capability. Via the Epifani footswitch the mid cut and mute can be engaged or disengaged. Edited November 11, 2013 by Johannes Oehl
