Greggo Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Anyone know of any songs or clips of the above? I'm thinking it would be quite an interesting sound but not been able to find anything particularly on you tube? Quote
stingrayPete1977 Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Nick of "Nick's guitars" uses that combination in a country band I think? Might be worth looking down that avenue. Quote
Dingus Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 If you go to Ed Friedland's You Tube Bass Whisperer channel , he does a review of the Stingray Classic ( May 2010) with flats on it and plays it with a pick at one point. Quote
Greggo Posted November 9, 2013 Author Posted November 9, 2013 Cool would be interested to hear - is it on yt? Quote

Spike Vincent Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Check out Curve - Chinese Burn. Cant do a youtube link but's definetely on there. That's the set up the bassist used, albeit through an overdrive pedal. Quote
Cat Burrito Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 You'd get a 60s clicky sound, it's wonderful. I use a P bass but like to play both finger style & with a pick depending on the song. Go for it, you won't be dissapointed. Plus if flats don't work out for you they are easy enough to sell on. Quote
steve-bbb Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 maybe a bit like this ? http://youtu.be/AI2k6aseNqg Quote
Greggo Posted November 10, 2013 Author Posted November 10, 2013
Still Gassing for a Stingray Greggo??
Comes and goes. I've got my 'ray copy to sound as close to a ray as it will funds allowing with its clone preamp, and it just cuts through so much better in my band situation than my summer acquisition (4 string Yamaha BB414). But thinking it would sound a bit sweeter with flats, but no reference as to what it may sound like. Quote
I've always thought that sounded a bit like Herbie Flowers' playing. Although he (obviously) plays a J, sometimes it sounds a bit 'Ray-like to my ears... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMzxkQs5mog Quote
Dandelion Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Flats sound excellent with a fuzz box too. Quote
Owen Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Bernard Edwards played many basses, but there was a Stingray in the mix with flats and he kind of used his index finger like a plectrum. Or am I wrong? it would not be for the first time today. Quote
BassBod Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 That TOTP video made me chuckle - the bass player clearly has a time machine and nows exactly how a 2013 scruffy-pub-club-muso should dress. Amazing..or have current fashions gone that retro? Quote
