isteen Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 'Tis the season to make that list. Since I'm a sucker for CD box sets as well as groovy basslines, I was thinking of getting a few wishes dotted down on the dreaded annual wish list. So far i have only found a Jaco Pastorius 2CD, a Maurcus Miller 5CD collection and a Charles Mingus box. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated Quote
Len_derby Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 There's a Paul Chambers 'Eight Classic Albums' CD box set that I can recommend. It would make a great companion-piece to 'MR P.C.' the book written by our very own Bilbo. Quote

miles'tone Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 If you like Mingus then The Complete Village Vanguard Recordings 1961 by the Bill Evans Trio is a winner. Scott Lafaro on upright bass, bringing it. Massively. Quote

[/quote] The Bill Evans Village Vanguard Recordings are great but apart from both playing upright bass i can't think of two totally different players than LaFaro and Mingus. I'm not convinced that if you like one of them you're necessarily going to like the other as the music they played and their playing styles are so different.
