Paul S
I find I can get a similar sound from my TC Classic 450 > BF Compact + Midget to that of my old monster Trace Elliot rig. You just need to fiddle with the EQ a bit for the 'Trace Elliot Preset' scooped sound. Main difference is current rig is around 24kg in total, the Trace Elliot was 100kg +/-

You have a very similar setup to mine now (TE 250W head into a S12 in my case) Will be interested to hear your thoughts on it when you have a chance to try it out. EDIT: Was it deanovw's S12 by any chance? Good chap to deal with, bought an amp from him a while back. Deedee
Picked up the head today and tried it through the MarkBass 1x15 I still have. 😜 it sounds awesome. My Stingray through the preshape and I was back in sonic heaven! Can't wait to try it with the Barefaced next week.

hubrad
Works for me. . Trace AH250SMX bought new about 20 years ago, 2xEA CXL112. Actually most of the time only one cab cos 2 gets complaints re too loud!
Deedee
Hi all Got the cab and it sounds amazing. Could only try it briefly at home (while the neighbours were out) but I'm chuffed to bits. My stingray and the Trace head sound just as I recall, a rich tone with some bite but now a whole lot clearer (and very loud). Extremely happy with both the head and the BF cab so thanks to all for the advice. 😊
RandomBass
Result! Always good to see/hear You will have to revisit this thread with an update once you've had more time with your setup - and preferably gigged with it too. Cheers Geoff
Deedee
Certainly will. By the by, is it just a happy coincidence that these BF cabs are exactly the same dimensions as the Trace heads???
RandomBass
Looking good! It's a common width that a lot of heads and cabs use, and have done for a while - makes things easier for rack mounting into standard size racks.

I think the last time I had/used a separate head it was a huge Peavey thing. It would have dwarfed this cab! Deedee
Well, had my first rehearsal with the new cab and head last night. Just went with the stingray straight into the head with the preset firmly in. Great punchy sound, cutting through nice and clear whilst maintaining a rich, fat tone. Glowing comments from the rest of the band. Love it !!!!!!!!

VTypeV4
Excellent.. These days I expect some of the Trace cabs will be showing their age with worn-out drivers as well as cosmetic issues. Never really had any issues with ones I owned and the 810 was one of the best ever. It's good to know that the Trace heads pair well with the new lightweight cabs, shows there's life in those (mostly great IME) amps even though I don't think Trace is really very fashionable these days. It was postulated in another thread a while back that they may consider making a compact head and matching cabs themselves.. It's a bit like modding an old bike which has a great engine but the old wheels are an odd size, the forks are thin and the rear shocks are worn out and replacing them with modern running gear. Bit like a GS1000 or RD350.
