It has definately had the decal replaced on the stock, but the serial number on neck checks out, however I thought the silver series has the S/N on the headstock? Anyone got any ideas? JapanAxe
I thought so too. CIJs have the s/n by the heel. Strange!
throwoff
And MIJ's can have it at the heel. This dates from 1991 according to the fender s/n resource site. The Silver Series was 92-94 I think. I am wondering if this is a proper Jap Fender but someone has re-decalled it as a silver series? gjones
If you're going to fake something, why fake a silver series squier? He'd be better off sanding the silver series decal off and pretending it was a MIJ Fender. Edited November 11, 2013 by gjones

I am certain the neck is Japanese, and the body looks 'right' the black plastic, the sunburst shade etc. Might have a punt EDIT - I have read around and supposedly a few did come out with Fender decals and the silver series decal, there is some confusion as to why, some say they were made for the Japanese market so branded Fender but the practice stopped fairly quickly. I got it for £175.... I think bargain of the decade.
gjones
Interesting. I'm a big fan of the MIJ Silver Series Squier basses. I did a bit of a google and notice that there's MIJ Fender Silver Series basses out there too. Here's a picture of one. [/quote] The first of the silver series to come over to the UK didn't have Silver Series on the headstock, from what I've read. £170-good price! throwoff
Picked it up today. Its got plenty of war wounds and needs a bloody good clean but the neck is wonderful. The ceramic pickups are fantastic. Love it already, ill probably put a hotrails in the bridge, real gigging guitar, I think my brother will be using it for now with our band.
