I know Wishbass are famous for their quirky looking basses, and each to their own,I guess, but I can not begin to imagine how this baby would feel round you neck. It's weird.

It looks like a bit of driftwood.

Thats exactly what it (and all the other) Wishbasses look like.I think that this guy's got it made as these have become a sort of 'cult' bass to own.I believe there's a sort of club in existence on Talkbass.Me,personally wouldn't be seen dead with one.

How is this guy still in business!?
Second hand wood, not much finishing, and he sells loads of them. Did you see the one made from an old piano where you could still see the marks from the internal struts? I thought that looked pretty funky and interesting.

Wishbass's are all unique instruments. Every bass seems to be experiment into the weird and wonderful mostly made with exotic woods. Hand made and definitely one offs ...a very different approach to mass produced, machine made precision factory stuff ! Pretty low cost too in comparison to a lot of stuff out there.

Cheap, unique, handmade. I reckon that with so much variables in design and materials that some instruments will twist and distort but looking at the production it seems to all be about owning something quite unique. Love a particular instrument or hate it.

There is a market for these I guess!

A few myths about Wishbasses I'd like to dispel
The thing that puts me off - No Truss rod. Stiff or not, in the UK climate I put money on that neck moving.
It is true the necks have no truss rod, but the solid laminate construction and neck through build makes them very stable. Mine have never budged in all the variances of British climate. The Bloodwood one he built for me would probably need hitting with a sledge hammer to get any movement,

but these are just badly made.
Not true. They aren't badly made. What they are is unfinished, but ready. The ones I have could be played straight out of the box and you would have would be a fantastic sounding instrument for very little bucks. Or you could spend a little time finishing them and have something that looks very desirable, but you would have to spend the time and money.

Looks like poo on a stick. Probably plays and sounds that way to.
Looks are in the eye of the beholder, but I think the way Wishnevski uses wood and the shapes he comes up with is very innovative. They certainly don't play like crap and the sound in conjunction with the Kent Armstrong's he has on mine would give any bass a run for its money.

Anyone can make their own to that level of craftsmanship.
Steve makes very nice feeling necks, big and solid yes, but a good standard of craftsmanship. Anyone could make anything, but the fact is they don't. But Steve does, and he does it successfully and at a reasonable price.

Utter, utter crap instruments with no redeeming features other than proving that some people will buy polished sh*t to be a bit different.
That's a fairly blunt statement. I don't think members here have a problem with being different. In fact I think it's relished and encouraged, and for that I'm glad the majority of members are not small minded. If you have owned or played a Wishbass perhaps you could give us the benefit of your experience? However I must say I for one have never bought polished sh*t, and polishing it is a waste of time. The best thing to do is to roll it in glitter.

Have a look at Dave's Bass Place http://www.davesbass...efinishing.html He puts real time and effort into Wishbasses and comes out with some fantastic results..
