I really ought to have the Warmoth website blocked on any computer I use.
I spotted in the showcase a gloss black dinky p body which was hanging around in there for a few weeks and I started getting urges to buy it and build something with it.
I then started to get interested in Status necks so a plan came together.

The dinky P is a sort of cut down p bass body with a rear control rout so designed to not have a scratchplate. see attached pic
I thought all that expanse of black would be a bit featureless so am going to stick on a custom shaped green pearl plate.
I have spoken to TheBassDoc about the possibility of having him make the plate but have also discovered that there is a brand new CNC machine here at work which has so far successfully already made a custom pickguard for one of my colleagues' SG guitar.....so I might give that a go.

Anyway the planned spec is:-

Warmoth dinky p gloss black body 4lb 5oz before pickup rout - ordered
Status Jazz neck - ordered
Gotoh GB640 res-o-lite tuners nickel - ordered
Babicz chrome bridge - got it - nickel ordered chrome will go on the P/J that currently has a gotoh201
Hipshot 3 string chrome string retainer - got it
Fender original precision split pick up - got it
Q-parts chrome mini knobs with green pearl inlay - ordered (also ordered black chrome as unsure which will look best!)
Custom 4 ply green pearl pickguard - blank material ordered pearl green/white/black/white
Passive pots (CTS 250k) - got them
Mono switchcraft jack - got it
Chrome neckplate on black plastic pad - ordered
Fender strap buttons with black felts - got them

After much debate I think I might get a local luthier to fit the neck - I have been warned that the Status graphite isn't the easiest of stuff to work with so might leave the drilling and screwing to a pro for that bit.

Anyway - I shall keep you all posted

What do you think of my idea?

I reckon it'll look pretty cool. The scratchplate sounds unusual, do you have a link?

To the blank?
I bought a sheet from Warmoth like this: http://www.warmoth.c...-P1606C862.aspx but I only bought 10" x 12" - i didn't need 10" x 16" - it is being shipped with the bass body.

It will be more like a stingray scratchplate than a pbass plate, as it won't go down to the knobs - one reason why I got the green pearl inly knobs.

Here is the showcase pic of the body before routing for the pickup or drilling the control holes or drilling for the bridge for that matter:

Q-parts knobs aren't the easiest things to get hold of. :(
Neither Bill Lewington http://www.bill-lewington.com/qparts/mdome.htm nor WD Music UK http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/q-parts-253-c.asp were able to supply me from stock as the knobs I am after are not imported by them.
WD stated that they would be able to get them for mid January delivery.
Q Parts http://www.qparts.com/index.php/knob.html wanted $23.95 shipping charge and 3 weeks to deliver to UK....

I ordered from Q-parts and arranged delivery to our LA office :) A colleague will bring them home next week - a MUCH cheaper and quicker solution.

Strange

This is the 3rd Fender original Precision pickup I have bought

However it seems this one has a larger shielding plate than the previous 2. It's so large it will not fit in the rout!
I bought this one from Thomann - I'm wondering if it is genuine as the other 2 I bought seem to have smaller shielding plates.
So what to do?
Do I question Thomann?
Do I remove the pickup from the shielding plate and get some tin snips and cut it down to size?

I bought a Fender p pickup and it had the large plate. It was definitely genuine, but was the Vintage model, maybe that's the difference?
