I have to add in Larry's video! It's too good to leave out.

Larry Grenadier with the Brad Mehldau Trio. The tune is really beautiful and Larry has the first solo. For me it's perfection.

Rinat Ibragimov. He was one of my DB tutor's tutors and I just think he's stunning. I've posted his Bottesini elsewhere so here's some Bach.

Danny Thompson - obviously (I'll resist the tempation to post the video of the spine tingling version of Solid Air from the Transatlantic Sessions as it'll be the umpteenth time I've put it up...)
Also Dan Berglund - I've only recently discovered EST and I'm really enjoying their music and Dans playing style.

No-one has (ever) mentioned Ali Friend, who alongside Mr Thompson, was the inspiration for my picking up the big bass. His credits include Beth Orton, Clayhill and the groundbreaking Red Snapper.

Clayhill - One Nerve

Dan Berglund - for making the complex appear simple...immaculate timing, versatility, and just the vibe he brings to the music !

Not found a single defining clip but love his work with EST

The pizz tone on this to me is the holy grail that electric bass players want but will never get, I dare say getting it on DB is probably a lot harder than he is making it look! :D

Totally agree, tried to get my Fender P bass to sound like this for years. Then went and bought the real thing, never regretted it for one second.

That great Jimmy Garrison video made me think of this short video interview with the late Art Davis who played along side Jimmy Garrison on John Coltrane's album Ascension.

Glad to help. I'm loving this thread and the classical one as there is so much great music being shared. Your Arvell Shaw video is AWESOME Tim. I can't believe how far he takes it. Not many bassists abandon the form and just go off on one, but that is incredible the way he does. It just keeps building, incredible.

Gary Karr clips on you tube was the final bit of inspiration before ordering my Gedo, love him!

I can understand that. If i had a bit of talent i would do the same and buy a double bass. :)

He always seems to be enjoying himself as well.

That may be so but i really couldn't justify buying one with my (lack of) talent.

That's true. I'll send my letter off to Santa tonight but i don't hold out much hope that he'll come up with the goods. :)

I've asked him for a KK Baby Bass KB1 so he should be able to get it in his sleigh.

Great bassists on this thread: I would like to add my favorite double bassist to this list: Avishai Cohen. I was front row at one of his concerts three days ago and I'm still in a complete state of bliss:
