roger Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 I've just purchased a nice silver series sunburst p bass and I wanted to give it a light relic look, does anyone know what the body wood is? I'm guessing the answer is 'basswood' but it feels so light! I just wondered if anyone would have an insight as to how it would relic? I would just like to dull the gloss finish with some minor sanding like a road worn, any help would be greatly appreciated. Dodge Quote

roger Posted November 17, 2013 Author Posted November 17, 2013 Arghhhh why did i forget to say: "please don't say gig it for 20yrs"etc etc Quote
gjones Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 It's basswood. Basswood doesn't have much in the way of a grain, so don't go too nuts with the sanding. Quote

cameltoe Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 The problem you have is poly doesn't really age gracefully like Nitro. That's why it still looks good 20 years on. Poly either looks brand new, or has chunks taken out of it. You won't get a convincing worn 'Road Worn' look with a poly finish. Quote
xilddx Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 I reliced my new USA Strat after I dinged it. I've been depressed ever since. Quote
Grangur Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 Young musician with roadworn instrument = idiot who can't look after his stuff. IMHO of course Quote
roger Posted November 17, 2013 Author Posted November 17, 2013 Thenk's for all your help guys, I'll mull over it for a bit, it's got no routing so I might make up a small pick guard for the controls, it'll kinda match my 62RI Japan fretless jazz! Quote
