Jono Bolton
Is there any way I can stop the shafts of my pots moving without replacing them? The nuts are screwed on tight and the pots itself doesn't move, just the shaft that the knobs goes on. It can be wiggled side to side, and I'm pretty sure that they're not supposed to. It's solid-shaft CTS pots that are on the bass if that makes a difference? I just can't be arsed having to replace and rewire them.
BOD2
I assume it's not the knob that's wiggling but the actual shaft of the pot itself ? If so there's nothing you can do to the pot really. You would have to look at replacing them, I'm afraid.

I put some skirted Jazz Bass knobs on it yesterday, I did have heavy chrome ones on and the new ones help keep them stable, with the exception of the small one on the tone knob, but I reckon I'll have to bit the bullet and whip out the soldering iron at some point
