This will make you automatically come up with another bass groove or even a whole different bass line in the same key. Jam till its phat and whoop there it is. [/quote] I was going to mention this in my original post (not the Barron Knights bit) that a lot of 'quirky'covers and the bands that turned them into their own style (Hayseed Dixie and Dread Zep spring to mind) soon do in fact start to sound like novelty bands. I think with those, both bands were always playing it firmly tongue in cheek though so it fitted that 'cabaret' ethos. No recordings of it yet, but an immediate hit with the punters. Interesting bassline possibilities, if you dare to venture past the 7th fret It all happened when mucking about in the practice room, trying to avoid having to make the "original vs softcell" decision. I just started playing an uptempo walking bass line, and the singer just started singing just like the original. Took the audience all of verse 1 to realise what song it was, but when it dawned on them we got a great cheer with many trying to join in.
