NBD - Fender Standard Jazz Copper Metallic Burst

Just got a Fender Standard (MIM) Jazz in what I thought was going to be sunburst (as was described to me) but turns out it's 'Copper Metallic burst' which is like a sparkly sunburst and rather fetching...

When I picked it up, neck like a nana, intonation a semi-tone out, covered in muck and needing a damn good fettle!

Got it home cleaned it up, tuned it, tweaked the neck, string height and intonation adjust and it plays real nicely! Jack socket is knackered but it's getting a kiogon loom replacement anyway to no worries there, I'll get some new strings as these ancient roundwounds have about as much life as a fossil and do it's tone no favours at all and probably some new pickup foam too...should feel and sound like a new'un when am done with it!

does anyone have any more information on these as there's not much out there (that I can find using google)?
was it a limited edition?
did I get a major bargain even if it does need a bit of time and a little cash to get it sweet again?

Depends how it sounds doesn't it?

If it hits that Jazz bass spot then you're in for a winner :)
I'm developing this theory that Precision or Jazz style bass is such a basic design that it's essentially the quality of the neck and pickups, possibly the body and then the skill of whoever bolts it together and sets it up that differentiates a good one from a bad one. Get it working for you right and it will outplay basses 3-4 times the value.

Sorry to be pedantic but doesn't it also depend largely on the quality of the player - I remember someone on here saying they'd seen one of the top pros play someone's starter level bass and made it sound good.

OP that's a great looking bass - nice score.

Now it's been cleaned, restrung, set up, action and intonation corrected and made playable it is a really nice bass, lots of fun to play and definately one of 'the good ones' rather than the awful fender qc dogs we hear about!

My fingers can get all of the great jazz-bass tones out of it and I'm happier with it than any other jazz bass I've ever had (I did NOT expect to be saying that either!!)!
