JapanAxe
I am pretty busy playing skinny-string guitar in my own band at the moment, and only occasionally needing to brush up on my bass repertoire for a gig. I have two honking great ring-binders of bass transcriptions that I like to play through. I realise I have tended to skip over the ones that I find awkward or difficult technique-wise. So my latest cunning plan is to go through the transcriptions again, and when I come across a tricky one, I'll move it to my 'challenge folder'. Then I can work on it at my leisure and concentrate on breaking it down to the elements of technique that I need to improve. Wish me luck! JapanAxe
Gone through the A's this morning and moved these two to the challenge file, my first contenders:[list] [*]Africa (Toto) - not difficult as such, just need to tighten up the timing, in terms of both the 16ths rhythm and the funny phrasing (some pairs of bars feel like 3+5 rather than 4+4); [*]Ain't No Stopping Us Now (McFadden & Whitehead) - found this in an old dep older so had a go - doable, but again needs work to make it tight.
