Johnm93
So, thinking of an acoustic bass as I live in a flat and have neighbours below. Plus, I just quite fancy one. Are Tanglewoods any good? Any better options? John.

BassBod
That's the best reason to get one - not for gigging. Look for Sigma, budget versions of Martin or used ones that were pricey new. The depth of the body makes a big difference to the acoustic tone, deeper is better unless you plan to plug it in very often (then it works against you by increasing the feedback problems you get). They are often fitted with bronze round wound strings, which are loud but harsh. Flat wound or plastic covered strings sound much nicer, but are quieter. Happy hunting
TheGreek
I've got a Crafter electro acoustic - ideal for noodling and learning stuff - not much use when there are other instruments about...
steviedee
I have a Washburn AB35 fretless 5 String which is a great bass which sounds lovely acoustically and looks great. I don't play it enough if truth be told.
Mickeyboro
Just about to put my Fender Kingman onto the market - watch this space in next 12 hrs. M
Lw.
I have a Fender BG31 acoustic for the same reasons - it's not bad for the money. I wouldn't say I'm totally blown away by it but the tone is quite nice & holds it's own when playing with an acoustic guitar...
paul_5
I've got a defretted Hohner HAB-10 and it's lovely. Sounds loads better restrung with flats than the phospher bronze ones it came with. They don't turn my sweat green either :-O
Johnm93
Thanks all, top advice. I'll have a mooch about on that basis and sort one out in the New Year. John.
Mog
Just a quick heads up regarding the neighbours. When I'm practicing on my acoustic it can be clearly heard in the rooms downstairs. Try and get a model that doesn't have a jumbo body. Should stop the sound from travelling too far. Having said all that if the flat has good sound insulation between floors then iqnore my post. Mikkoantt
I just bought Tanglewood acoustic bass and have did some recordings. Producers have been very pleased about sounds. And it's very well made for it's price. Good purchase:) ps. sorry about my bad english. I'm from Finland.

RhysP
Personally I'd spend the money on a decent headphone amp for electric bass than bother with an acoustic one.
Johnm93
Thanks Mog - the old lady downstairs does'nt complain when the dial is below 5... RhysP - good point. I might go for both options if I feel flush enough.
