xilddx
And I've never heard of him, he just came up randomly on YT. Really beautiful phrasing and execution even if the composition is a bit prosaic and lacking dynamics. leschirons
Nope, never heard of him. It says he won Guitar idol. Well deserved by the sound of it. Beautiful player. Throws the lot in. One minute he's in some mode from outer space and the next he's blues scale and it all just seems to gel and work. Great fluidity and a serious command of the fretboard. Lovely playing, but no doubt there'll be a further 70 posts explaining where he's going wrong Looks like he's playing a Squier too. Mine doesn't sound like that!! Funnily enough, I didn't pay too much attention to the rest of the composition so I guess that means his playing held my attention for the whole 5 minutes although for the intro chords it did sound as though David Sanborne might start playing Edited December 1, 2013 by leschirons

Regardless of all that the kid is a fabulous player, and his note choices should be able to melt many hearts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8P8WwzDeCI Edited December 1, 2013 by xilddx
leschirons
I know what you mean about the backing track. Eric Johnson does something like putting his 3rds on the top of his chords and this has the same feel to it. Agree anyway, fabulous phrasing. One to watch. xilddx
Blimey it's quiet in ere. Obviously not very impressive. Maybe it needs a new title ..
Clarky
Yep, Nige he is a bit good and it did remind me of Eric Johnson (is it 'Cliffs of Dover'?)
leftybassman392
Very nice - great tone and some very slick playing. I get the Eric Johnson reference as well - not so sure about it myself but I can certainly see why people are making the connection. Mostly in D Mixolydian I'd say, but with some nice bluesy flat third string bends in there. Thanks for that Nige. gjones
His playing is melodic and he's able to show his technical chops off as well without fret w***ing. I hate guitarist who just play scales incredibly fast - It's incredibly unmusical.

You talk about the composition having some items lacking - but I wondered if part of that isn't in the nature of such. They tend to cover certain ground, and maybe don't cater for all tastes. Wonder if he has more vids - wouldn't mind seeing him try something else with a bit more soul to it, if you get me.
paul_5
Needs more cowbell. No seriously, I enjoyed that. He's a great player.
PauBass
Beautiful playing! I hear other influences in there, Satriani, Vai...but the guy has his own style for sure and he does it really well. xilddx
That seems to be a Squier Classic Vibe 50s Strat. I had one, it was a great guitar for the money, even out of the box.
waynepunkdude
Very good player, shame about the song, did sound a bit like the music you get on the end credits of a cop film, bet in a band setting he is the balls.

Guest bassman7755
Great player but ... he sounds like hes spent about 5 minutes in his whole life listening to someone other than joe satriani (not that I can blame him for that). I'm sure he'll be a fantastic player when he matures and develops his own style a bit more.
