Valve amp question

Hi guys,

Kind of still new to the world of valves, but i'm going to be A/B'ing some cabs with my SVT-II (non pro) over the weekend. I was wondering if i could leave the amp on and plug in the different cabs whilst it was on, as long as i make sure it's always got a cab plugged into it? I'd be using a mixture of 4 ohm and 8 ohm cabs.

Failing that, if i were to put the cab on standby, could i do this? And if so, would i need to ensure the amp always has a cab plugged into it?

Or would i have to put it in standby, let the valves drain off the power, turn the amp off, plug the other cab/cabs in and then start it back up?

My apologies if these are some rather basic and stupid questions...i'm learning :)

Thanks
Jamie

I'd be inclined to do as much cab swapping as you can without switching it off. You'll probably also need to make sure you don't have a combination of cabs that gives you less than 4 Ohms total load - I'm not familiar with the SVT-II but it would be surprising if it did run down to 2 ohms.

I'd also back the gain off to zero before swapping any cables round.
