bassjamm
Hi guys, Kind of still new to the world of valves, but i'm going to be A/B'ing some cabs with my SVT-II (non pro) over the weekend. I was wondering if i could leave the amp on and plug in the different cabs whilst it was on, as long as i make sure it's always got a cab plugged into it? I'd be using a mixture of 4 ohm and 8 ohm cabs. Failing that, if i were to put the cab on standby, could i do this? And if so, would i need to ensure the amp always has a cab plugged into it? Or would i have to put it in standby, let the valves drain off the power, turn the amp off, plug the other cab/cabs in and then start it back up? My apologies if these are some rather basic and stupid questions...i'm learning Thanks Jamie
LeftySteve
Just flick the standby swith before unplugging/plugging leads and you will be fine. No need to wait at all and certainly no need to shut the whole amp down. Occasionaly I forget to do this which usually results in a blown fuse! gypsymoth
"results in a blown fuse" it could also result in a blown transformer.

pete.young
I'd be inclined to do as much cab swapping as you can without switching it off. You'll probably also need to make sure you don't have a combination of cabs that gives you less than 4 Ohms total load - I'm not familiar with the SVT-II but it would be surprising if it did run down to 2 ohms. I'd also back the gain off to zero before swapping any cables round.
bassjamm
Hi Pete, Did the testing earlier today...i just whacked it on standby without doing any volume finddling, and it worked fine!!! And yes it does run down to 2 ohms...it's a beast!!! Thanks
rodl2005
Just make SURE it's either a 4 OR 2 ohm load NOT 8 ohms damage can happen w/ an 8 ohm load. It'll run all nite/week etc at 4 or 2 ohms. I reg. use mine with 2x4ohm cabs = a 2 ohm load & she Snarls!!!!!!
