Les Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I currently use a smallish holdall that comfortably carries what I need. Leads, tuners, mics, tools, tape etc but it's a bit of a pain cos' it's just one space and it's difficult to find anything. Has anyone got a good solution or adapted something that's not gig specific but works a treat ? I was thinking of something like a smallish fishing tackle bag with a large space for leads but some compartments for organising stuff. Les Quote
Cat Burrito Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I've used a small tool box in the past when I was a bit more organised. I think the tip came from here a few years ago. I travel much lighter now though and just bung it all in a small school holder. Quote
Paul S Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I recently bought a Halfords tool bag http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_categoryId_255214_productId_261431_langId_-1?istCompanyId=b8708c57-7a02-4cf6-b2c0-dc36b54a327e&istItemId=mptawl&istBid=tztx&_$$ja=cgid:5302137724|tsid:35522|cid:119462284|lid:18283950120|nw:search|crid:21270118204|dvc:c|adp:1o1|bku:1&gclid=CIWX1Zm9j7sCFa-WtAodQksAiA It has enough pockets inside and out to organise the contents a little bit - not perfect but a lot less rummaging than before. This is just for rehearsal - I have a large old Samsonite holdall that contains the rest of the 'gig kit' into which I stick this small holdall - a kind of 2 tier system. Quote
Les Posted December 1, 2013 Author Posted December 1, 2013 Never thought of a tool bag. Good call. I'll investigate. Quote
chris_b Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I've got an old leather IBM laptop bag. Laptops were the size of a breeze block back then so everything easily fits into it. Quote
Thunderbird Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I use an old laptop bag and find I can fit all my bits and bobs in there a treat Quote
howdenspur Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I've used an adidas sports bar in the past, but you can't see anything! Now use a tool box with compartments in the top for tuners, capos (sorry), pens etc and a big space in the box for leads, straps etc. Sorted! Quote
spongebob Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I squeeze all my leads and stuff in my bass case along with the bass itself - less trips! Quote
jazzyvee Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 (edited)
I squeeze all my leads and stuff in my bass case along with the bass itself - less trips! bassace Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I like to have my gear in soft bags so they squeeze into the corners of the load space. I seem to carry so much stuff that I now have two small bags. One gig specific so I can easily find those leads that I'll need on the gig and a second bag that stays in the car with all the back-up stuff in it, just in case. Quote
geoffbyrne Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I have a large toolbox with wheels at one end into which go all my bass & PA stuff including the big speaker leads, spare batteries, toolkit, gaffer tape etc. G. Quote
Kirky Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I have a 3 unit rack flight case into which my GK MB Fusion is mounted, and in it goes 2 x OBBM speaker leads, tuner, microphone, guitar stand, a couple of cables. Main cable goes in the bass case. Its very efficient, the only extra thing I have to carry (apart from speakers) is a bag containing mic stand, mic leads and power 4-ways. However I often think I'm missing the main benefit of a lightweight head and will probably get a laptop bag at some stage, or backpack designed for laptop like this. bonzodog Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I use an old aluminium camera/brief case style case with all the foam ripped out. Gets all the leads in but can also be used to store fragile stuff if needed and is rigid enough to stack things on top of Quote
xgsjx Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 I use a laptop case too. Leads go in the main compartment, the rest arranged in to the zippy bits to suit. Quote
ern500evo Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 http://bit.ly/1eG1aqB I used to use a sports bag but have just started using one of these that I had lying around from my days as a network engineer. You can get them from any CK tool distributor. Quote
Norris Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 I got a couple of large cheap sports holdalls from Sports Direct for carrying my par cans around in. They were much, MUCH cheaper than anything that you'd find if you searched for "PAR CAN case". The original, individual cardboard boxes provide a bit of padding for the lights, and in turn are protected by the holdall. Having only two lights in each holdall makes them easier to carry around & stack in the car, as individually they are not too big. For mic/leads/gaffa tape/spare strings/etc. I recently bought a small flight case like this, which is actually quite robust. Quote
Bassmonkey Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 [sub]I use the Taylor Musicians Gear Bag. Really good if a bit pricey. I ordered via Dawsons Music[/sub] Quote
BobVbass Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 I use a rucksac so I can carry it on my back while a carry the bass in one hand and roll the Super twin along with the other - when I used to have a little type D amp that went in the rucksack too - one trip to the car Quote

Matt P Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 (edited) I used to use a cheap alu-framed caes like this one http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/aluminium-flight-case-with-tool-compartments-and-dividers-gl34m, it worked pretty well and my SWR head could fit in as well, then i bought the F1 and was given the laptop bag that the guy was using to carry it round in and i found that i could get everything in that. the idea of a fishing bag is one i've had before, i've got a fly fishing bag that i use for it's intended purpose but it would work excellently for leads and has lots of pockets for bits and bobs as well. i've got this one http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/pure-fishing-glider-pocket-bag-p146705 but it's on the small side so this one might be better. http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/pure-fishing-odyssey-game-bag-p146816 they're not that expensive and there's a huge range available, they're sometimes known as game bags. gafbass02 Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 (edited) When I gig on bass I manage to fit everything I need (including amp head) in my igig gig bag and gator pedal board bag. When I'm going out with the band I front on vocals and guitar with my own pa etc we use a wheeled travelling bag from eBay for all the mains leads, signal cables and miscellaneous stuff which works a treat. tayste_2000 Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Reviving this thread as interested to see what people are using. Generally I keep everything I need to use that bass with in the gig bag, so a cable, a tuner and a few patch leads. Then I have my pedalboard with specifics to it that allow me to fix any issues with the pedalboard For a while I used aluminium suitcases but they become such a mess with you just dumping stuff in. On and off for the past two years I've been using a pilot/air steward(ess) bag, it's got 4 large zip compartments, individual pockets that fit pedals (I can get like 10 in at a time) plus areas for cables that are all divided off so I have instrument, speaker and power all in easy to find spots. I am looking for something else though, not sure why maybe it's because the bag is so useful for work and weekends away I want to have something ready to grab for the stage and studio at any time, the gruv gear stadium and mono 365 have me interested but with a bass on my back not sure I could use these comfortably Quote
tayste_2000 Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Here you can see it just after the studio, the only thing removed are the full sized akg headphones. If I'd have thought a head I could have ditched one of the bags I took this weekend and put my laptop etc in this. Also has enough space for 2-3 days of clothes Quote
LiamPodmore Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 I'm going to be using my camera bag (Lowepro Classified 200aw. £50 on amazon and huge) from now on. It's all compartmented in the main section with adjustable dividers, plus there's 4 more pockets on the front/rear. Liam Quote
