xgsjx Posted December 4, 2013 Author Posted December 4, 2013 Doesn't neccessaraly have to be a cover band. My past few bands have been originals bands that chuck in 1 or 2 covers that aren't played like the original. Quote
KevB Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Hang on, I'm supposed to be enjoying this stuff? I'm in the wrong band... Quote
FinnDave Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 One we always enjoy playing, and goes down well with audiences is our version of Elvin Bishop's 'My Dog', Very little similarity to the original! Quote
Mr Stinky Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Anything with open strings, so I can do a lot of pointing. Quote
Mr Stinky Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Or. Stupid Girl and Pretty Fly For A White Guy. Quote
chaypup Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Really enjoying playing Snarky Puppy's 'Gone Under' at the moment, even though it's easy as chips. Quote
Norris Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 (edited) Current band favourite is Witch Queen of New Orleans by Redbone, re-arranged and extended to suit our guitar-bass-drums trio Edit: or Come Up and See Me (Make Me Smile) Edited December 4, 2013 by Norris Quote
sykilz Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Feeders "Buck Rogers" and "Tobacco Road" in the Dave Lee Roth styley are both smile inducers at the moment. Quote
Cosmo Valdemar Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Mine is Heard It Through The Grapevine - played in the CCR style. So much room to play around with the bassline. Quote
KevB Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Actually I quite enjoyed it on Saturday when we decided to throw in the Arctic Monkey's version of Drake's 'Going Home' as a final encore. Considering we'd only briefly discussed doing it after the previous gig and didn't rehearse it at all in advance it didn't sound too shabby and the audience got into the groove with it. Quote
Conan Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 (edited) This one.... Just love the grungey feel and some great-sounding guitar chords: Really like this one too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuYPCP2RSXA Edited December 4, 2013 by Conan Quote
topheteatwo Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Territorial Pissings is always great fun, Waiting Room by Fugazi has a great bass line which is great to play and War Pigs is a classic! Quote
gapiro Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Really loving doing "Runaway Baby" at the moment (Bruno Mars) Quote
tauzero Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Gigwaise, I think my favourite is "She sells sanctuary". Certainly not a complex bassline but with lots of energy if played a little faster than the original. I also enjoy Feeder's "Feeling a moment" for rather different reasons - I find it rather satisfying to play and there's room for some passion. Quote
W11ATO Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013
I'm quite enjoying We Close Our Eyes at the moment.
+1 Call Me is good fun to play too but my fav at the moment it Rio Quote
BassBunny Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 With the Function Band it would have to be either Ain't no Stoppin us Now (McFadden & Whitehead) or September (Earth Wind & Fire). With the get together once in a while Jazz/Fusion band, either Cold Duck Time (Al Jarreau version) or Cissy Strut (The Meters) Quote
seashell Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013
Gigwaise, I think my favourite is "She sells sanctuary".
Definitely agree (apart from the going faster than the original bit - couldn't manage that! ). I like it cos I can do a bit of headbanging during the long drum fill when I'm not actually playing. My other fave is Heart Shaped Box. I love all the string bending business. We don't do it that often though, due to the down tuning. Neither I nor guitarist are very good at down tuning quickly Quote
Jonesy64 Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 We are running through some new songs for the new year and I am loving Suspect Device - SLF. Quote
Kinder Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 [sup]Slightly ashamed to say it's currently All Night Long by Lionel Richie. We gigged it for the first time a couple of weeks ago and it went down a storm, best reaction of the night by a mile. Very dull bass line but loved watching the drunken dancing.[/sup] Quote
ezbass Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Ooh that's toughie, I can't pick just one. Current faves are: I'm Gonna Tear Your playhouse Down; Sledgehammer and Babooshka. Quote
BassistInTheNorth Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Won't Get Fooled Again. Great fun and audience reaction is always fantastic! Quote
SlapbassSteve Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Crazy In Love by Beyonce- The bassline in the original doesn't actually do anything in the verses, so I try and shoehorn in a different classic riff or two every gig in to raise a knowing smile from my bandmates. Current favorites to chuck in include Jungle Boogie, Come Together, and Moby Dick/Black Dog/The Ocean... sad thing is the crowd are usually none the wiser! Quote
skej21 Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Reeling in the Years - Steely Dan. Just a great tune. Quote
Oopsdabassist Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Love doing Pinball Wizard, our lead guitarist nails the energy of Mr Townsend and I love the ox's approach on this tune. Quote
