dodgnofski Posted December 4, 2013 Author Posted December 4, 2013 Thanks for the reminder - hopefully it will be Howard to the rescue - yet again !! Quote
MoonBassAlpha Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 (edited) What's the exact problem here? Are they missing or just slipping and not holding tune? I can help with the latter. Cheers Jules Edited December 5, 2013 by MoonBassAlpha Quote
dodgnofski Posted December 6, 2013 Author Posted December 6, 2013 Thanks Jules, they work OK - it's just that two have been replaced by 'one piece' units and are not black - mmmmm - so it looks like I need the knurled knobs 'and' the thread assemblies All the best Tim Quote
iconic Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Ive a jack that i love and never seems to goes out of tune. I'm interested in what causes the slipping issue? Quote
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Ch guitars? If you go to a guitar tech, they have loads of knobs/switches etc. Quote

MoonBassAlpha Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013
Ive a jack that i love and never seems to goes out of tune. I'm interested in what causes the slipping issue?
The threaded portion of the tuner knob is steel and the slider/string retainer is aluminium, so a lot softer. The thread in the slider can just strip, especially if you don't keep them well lubricated. I've fixed this on a couple of Jack Basses by drilling and tapping out the slider to take an M4 Helicoil, a steel threaded insert. There is just enough meat on the slider to do this, and it only takes about 5 minutes if you have the Helicoil kit. Quote
