BigBassBob Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 As far as I'm aware all Stingrays are ash. Quote

[/quote] Not all, there are some (old) solid colour instruments that are poplar. Some were alder. Edited December 5, 2013 by dlloyd Quote
Dingus Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 They did indeed used to use some alder and poplar, but as far as I know they have all been ash for several years now, since around the turn of the Millenium. Alder was used mainly for the old Transparent Red finishes , and poplar for some opaque colours such as black , but the majority of Stingrays have always been ash, as far as I know. In terms of sound quality , you really can't go wrong with ash for a Stingray. Quote
Roland Rock Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Sand a big area off the back and post a pic ;-) Quote
stingraybobs Posted December 5, 2013 Author Posted December 5, 2013 Many thanks for all of your replies it's confirmed what I was hoping. First brand new bass that I've purchased just couldn't resist. Think I have found my ideal bass after many years of trying, the feel on the back of the neck it's just perfect. Quote
mingsta Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 If it was built in recent years it will definitely be ash. There's a thread on the ebmm website where you can post the serial number and they will tell you body wood and manufacture year. Quote
BigBassBob Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 I stand thoroughly corrected Enjoy your bass dude! I've only taken to Stingrays over the past two years after I picked up a used one on here (which is my favourite bass to play in the flock!) Quote
