Guest MoJo
Had my fill of pocket amps. Looking for a big old amp 500 watts plus with good tone shaping control. Thinking along the lines of an ABM500 Evo. Your thoughts please

skychaserhigh
Can't go wrong with an ABM as you said.
RandomBass
There's an ABM500 in the classifieds, with footswitch and cover I believe. Great amps. Oh yeah, Trace are good 'uns too.
BassBod
OLD Trace - GP11 MkIV. Painted wood or vinyl covering with odd XLR input. Or GK800RB. Or any old big power amp and preamp of your choice (look at the Gear Porn section for some good ones).
chris_b
I used to play an Ampeg SVT3PRO that had a very nice fat, punchy tone. Don't believe stories about low volume. If you run the master full on and, in my case, the gain never went over half. That was more than enough to keep up with very loud bands through my Mesa Boogie cabs. Truckstop
Peavey Firebass 700. I think the loudest and biggest head I ever owned. Cracking sound, looks mean and costs nothing. I picked mine up for £120 a year ago. Truckstop
thodrik
Old Trace Elliot or Ashdown ABM would do the job. In terms of 'modern' solid state stuff I do rate the Hartke LH500/1000 amps, the Aguilar SC500 and any one of bigger EBS heads (got a Fafner myself). Or you could go old school SWR or Gallien Krueger if you want something a bit more unusual/1980s influenced. Peavey Firebass is also a good shout. I also like the SVT Pro series amps, but not so keen on the SVT450. Basically just see what is available for the money you have set aside and get what you fancy. JTUK
DB750. Best around, IMV. not entirely SS as it has a large valve pre stage but the back end power is THERE... I've used most of the big blocks. I wouldn't say the EQ stage was in your face at all... it is more subtle than that... but any decent bass will shine through IMO. FinnDave
Another vote for the ABM 500, very happy with mine.

[/quote] +1 Any of the bigger ones, GP11 500 and later 400 / 600 SMX or AH500 - 12 are pretty pokey. My vote would be for the 400..
Lozz196
This Marshall DBS7200 (with cab) is a steal at £200 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/223914-marshall-dbs-7200-amp-and-7015-cab/page__hl__dbs__fromsearch__1 I had the 7400 and it was a great amp, just too heavy for me.
